Direct Debit EDF

Over the last few months I have been using a lot less electricity so I lowered my direct debit from £129 to £100 then last week down to £50 due to the energy grant starting in October which will bring the monthly payments up to £117. I have just recieved my 6th monthly bill, I am £232 in credit and edf want to increase my d/d to £72?! I have just rung them and told them that I want the d/d to stay at £50 until April 2023 as they have NOT taken into account the added £67 monthly gov energy grant or my credit balance!! Adding both grant and my new monthly payment still takes me well over the £72 they were asking.
If edf had taken both the grant and my credit into the equation this would have brought my d/d payments down quite considerably!

You are attempting to do what the supplier will do for you without any intervention. If, for example, my monthly DD payment was set at £67 then come October, my supplier will not charge me a penny but it will add £67 credit to my energy account.
EDF will set your monthly DD on the basis of the tariff you will be on from October and it will take into account your credit balance. To calculate your potential energy costs going forward, you need to look back over a whole year not just the summer months. We all use use less energy during the summer.1 -
It is confusing isn't it with EDF transferring money from the right hand to the left. EDF and others have argued that altering everyone's DD for 6 months and then back again is a lot of work with associated cost.
Hence your DD should stay as it needs to be for the consumption and you will get credits of £67/66 back to your bank.
I expect that EDF has considered your credit balance - you need to be in credit ready for winter.
I wish EDF would give me monthly statements rather than 6 monthly.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Do you really think that £5 will cover your usage? Of the £72 EDF will refund you £66/£67.

So, it is understandable that they want to increase the direct debit.I have just rung them and told them that I want the d/d to stay at £50 until April 2023 as they have NOT taken into account the added £67 monthly gov energy grant or my credit balance!!They are taking into account your low credit balance. And they would have auto-dropped the direct debit with the support payments.

I am on a fix with EDF and have changed to Whole Monthly without a problem.
It is just how you pay and has nothing to do with SVT or fixed tariff.0
