Paying Someone Else's Bill?
Preface - I moved into a new build early 2021 and long story short the address changed from 52 to 54 due to a change in the plans of the estate. A couple of months ago my neighbour told me he had been paying someone else's energy bill because of this.
Fast forward to now and my energy bill seems way off. Surely these figures show that I'm also paying for someone else's usage.
Smart meter reading 21st Aug 2022 5186.2
Customer reading 17th Sep 2022 4949.0
Smart meter reading 21st Sep 2022 5499.4
How can it go down over a month or up so rapidly over 4 days?! I'm also certain I don't have a smart meter installed (which I know I should).
I'll get in touch with them ASAP but just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience? TIA

Before you do anything, look at your bill and confirm that the meter serial numbers on your bill agree with the serial numbers on the meters attached to your property.0 -
Thanks very much for this. I'm not 100% sure but I'm positive I don't a smart meter installed at present, so not sure how to approach that.0

Properties built in 2021 would normally have smart meters fitted. The lack of an in house display is usually down to the fact that the meters are installed months before build completion; there is no supplier appointed and no easy way to pair the in house display with the communications unit._neezyyy said:Thanks very much for this. Can you post a picture of your electricity meter? Scrub out the serial number.0 -
Do the serial nos. match? If not, then that's the issue. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you both very much. I'm at work atm but have taken the serial numbers form the bill and will check when I'm home.0

On your bill the meter readings will have letters or words like, A, C, E, S, our read , your read. Our read is generally (it could rarely a meter reader) Smart as is S...
Read your meter - watch out for the decimal point - does it compare roughly with your last bill ? If yes then the supplier is using the readings to generate your bill.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The serial number on my bill doesn't match the serial number on my meter at home. Thanks very much for the help everyone! Hopefully I can get it sorted and get what I'm owed.2
