Gas cost in £'s and pence please

Help please - If my 9am reading is for Gas 1673.10 and same time next morning is 1673.34 how much has this cost at 2.991p per kWh rate?

I've calculated this a couple of times moving the decimal point, I get 0.72 before standing charge is added, does that look right please?

The answer depends on the meter units, if it is metric, which seems likely, then the cost is about 8p.

    Metric or imperial meter ?
    That is 0.24 meter units.
Metric = around 2.7 kWh which will cost 8p
Imperial = around 7.7 kWh which will cost 23p
  • I see, thank you, how do I know which one please?

Metric will have cu.m  or m3 on the dial, imperial will have cu ft.

Check the meter and it will mention 'm3' or 'cubic metres' on there if metric, or 'ft3' 'cubic feet' if Imperial.
Also metric meters tend to have 5 numbers before the decimal, Imperial only 4...
... if it is a smart meter then it is metric.
  • Thank you - I've just taken a look its ft3

Then around 23p as mentioned above.
Can't be precise because there is a calorific value involved in the calculation which changes a little from day to day.

  • How is this calculated please:

    That is 0.24 meter units
Metric = around 2.7 kWh which will cost 8p
Imperial = around 7.7 kWh which will cost 23p

The detailed calculation will appear on any of your gas bills, but as a rough guide you can multiply the meter units by 32 for imperial or 11.2 if Metric to get the kWh.
Your meter readings are reported in units of 100 cubic feet, a metric meter reports in units of 1 cubic metre.
There are 2.83 cubic metres in 100 cubic feet, so if you look on your bill at the details calculation you will usually see a multiplier of 2.83 being applied in the calculation...
  • Thanks so much, it took me ages to work this out for my spreadsheet but I've got there now with your help.

how are we on electricity, please?

9am reading is for electricity 64515.4 and same time next morning is 64524.5 how much has this cost at 16.61p per kWh rate.

    I've got this at 9.10 units used = £1.51?
