11,000 kw pa - Help with Electric Usage Audit
Does anyone know of a company that can come into your home and conduct an Electricty Usage Audit. My BG Forcasted Usage (and consequential bills) is: Estimated annual consumption11,246 kWh; Estimated annual cost*£3984.12. Three adults (my wife and 19yr old step son) live in a three bedroom semi. Whilst I know we have alot of appliances and tech in the house I am struggling to identify the main culprits. Even when we went on holiday recently the house was using 10 plus kw per day. I really need somene who knows whats what to conduct an inspection of the house and a) tell me what is driving the high usage (i.e. single items or cumalative of everything)....does such a service exist??
Note: I thoroughly expect our electricty usage to be higher than average given the list of appliances that we have (I will spare you the list) however, this feels excessive.
Many thanks

Are you heating with electricity or something else? Are you on E7 or a single rate? Do you have a smart meter?Living the dream in the Austrian Alps.1

No need to pay anyone! There are plenty of knowledgeable members here who can point you in the right direction to investigate usage.
A list of appliances would be very useful.2 -
Start with anything that gets hot, or makes something else get hot, or stops things getting hot.
One other thread here that might particularly help:

Gas cooker? How do you heat your hot water?
Why 'estimated' annual usage? Assuming you have lived in the property for at least a year, go back over your bills and confirm the actual kWh usage. Don't ever rely on a supplier's own estimates. No free lunch, and no free laptop4 -
Maybe the forum needs to come up with an equivalent of a "statement of affairs" but for energy.
A list of all the likely appliances that a household may have, that you can check and tick (or cross) off.
With additional headings for how your home/water is heated. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)6 -

I think it would be better to educate people into the reality that up to 80% of their energy usage is heating and hot water, rather than obsessing about how much their router uses, and whether it's cheaper to boil a kettle with gas or electricity.
The majority of those asking 'why is my usage so high?' tend to list in detail their electrical appliances, but don't even mention how the property is heated and hot watered. No free lunch, and no free laptop5 -
Can you list some of the appliances and tech? no need to employ anyone as you know what you are using and people on this forum can give you the likely power consumption of those items.1
