ive had quotes for a new boiler and have got dow to two. Both roughly the same price both with 10 year warranty but i know nothing about boilers and googling isnt really helping.
Does anyone have any opinions. Valliant is the ecotech pro and the worcester bosch is the greenstar 2000

We've had the Vaillant Ecofit Pure for about 18 months and are pleased with it.
No problems (touch wood!) and much more economical than our old 15 year old BG boiler.0 -
cheers, my current boiler is a worcester 24i and is probably 20/25 years old so its time for a new one0

Both good brands.
What controls are you thinking of using?
The WB is rated for slightly higher efficiency but if I am reading it correctly it is only the central heat exchanger that is warrantied for 10 years with the rest at 6 years?
You will probably have to install a magnetic filter too to max the warranty on either. If you install WB controls at the same time as a WB boiler they will be warrantied for as long as the boiler.0 -

I think they're pretty much of a muchness. For what it's worth, I've got the WB green star, installed in 2020 and no problems. According to the technician who was here yesterday for annual service, it's running at 98% efficiency.0

Which one modulates down the most, I'm guessing the Valliant.
greenstar 2000 6.7kwh
Valliant. ecoTEC pro 24
Nominal heat output range at 50/30˚C (Condensing mode) kW 5.9 - 24.8
Nominal heat output range at 80/60˚C (Non condensing mode) kW 5.2 - 23

I don't know - does either have Opentherm control, and is it better than just the boiler itself modulating based on water temp?
My understanding of Ot was that IT told the boiler stuff like "I'm getting close to the desired room temp, so start to back off. Ok, got there, now keep it steady..."? Whereas a normal modulating boiler will output according to the flow(?) temp, and has no idea the actual ROOM temp is being reached, UNTIL the room 'stat says "Enough already!"
Is that the principle? If so, surely it's better?0 -
WB don't have OpenTherm but use their own proprietary system. If you're going to use to WB controls that's not an issue, if you're planning on getting a smart thermostat at some point (Hive, Tado, etc.) then the Valliant may be better (assuming it has OpenTherm).1

Consider Viessmann as a alternative? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
