Advice on Motorway service car park fine

Depends on your definition - Motorways are not just those pre-fixed with "M" - This road is a dual carriage way separated by a central reservation with a hard shoulder[Deleted User] said:

Can you advise what parking company have given you the fine - and what the fine is for?sanju_uk said:Hi All, I need some advice regarding Motorway service car park fine.
The other day I was returning from Great Malvern, I stopped by BP service station to take some rest.
I got parking fine of £100 for staying 40 mins. I didn’t see any parking charge sign board as I thought its allowed to park at motorway services free for two hours, as they are required to by law.
I have now parked there several times and I am concerned I will be getting more parking letters through the door.
Is it worth appealing? Do you know if anyone has won the appeal or fine revoked?
Thanks,
Sanj

No, it doesn't depend on my (or your) definition. Motorways are defined in law, designated by the DfT, signposted as such, and subject to their own regulations and speed limits. They are either prefixed or suffixed by "M". None of that applies to the A419.DE_612183 said:

The OP's issue is that he thought the service station in question was subject to motorway regs, which it obviously wasn't.
BTW all dual carriageways have a central reservation. A road without one is a single carriageway.2 -
However, this is all somewhat moot as the requirement for two hours free parking applies both to services located on motorways and those on All Purpose Trunk Roads (although I don't know if this includes the A419):[Deleted User] said:

Are you sure about that? I searched the DfT and they only categorise things as SRNs and PRNs ( and M and A road can be either ). Anyway don't want to de-rail the thread - I presume that the land in question was private land and therefore the thread should go over to the parking board. The OP should contact the landowner and his MP, and the follow the newbees thread to get rid of this "invoice".[Deleted User] said:

See the Motorway Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982, etc.DE_612183 said:

On a practical level, every entry to a motorway has a distinctive blue sign signifying that m'way regs apply (see Highway Code), and all of the later signs are blue rather than green. Anyone who doesn't recognise a motorway - and understand the rules - shouldn't be driving on one, or indeed at all.1
