Changing BT contract timeline / Keep email

Hi,
I want to move from BT to Plusnet - I have 31 days left on my BT contract.
I am just wondering when I should start the transfer/cancellation process, so I don't get charges for leaving early or paying more for the price rises to current BT contract.
I am also using BT (old yahoo email address) and don't want to lose it. How do i go about keeping this?
Is the new plusnet2 router good?
Kind regards

First, make sure whether you have a notice period of 1 month. If so, today may be the last chance to cancel the BT contract in time.0

Having a quick look it seems 14 days is what is given when changing providers:-
"Exceptions to the 30-day minimum notice period - If you're switching to another provider through the standard process (you contact your new service provider and they notify us), the notice period will be 14 days."
Still have no idea when to start the switching process so I dont have to pay any more than necessary.0 -
My dad pays £2 a month to retain his old btinternet.com email address0

nah im not paying £2 there is an option for FREE email with them but it needs to be the basic option. Not sure what i am on and how i can change it1

It is best to not use ISP supplied email addresses as then there is no issue when you switch ISPs. Transition to a free Gmail/Outlook/etc email address.Switching ISP usually takes about 14 days. Start the switch less than 14 days before the minimum term expires. Any costs at the increased out of term rates will be minimal for a day or 3.2

BT basic email is webmail only and you cannot link any apps to it on any desktop app or mobile app. So as long as that works for you.

yes it does i just use it for a few old accounts so will eventually migrate them away0

I recently changed over to another isp from BT. I put in my transfer request a day after my contract ended, took 15days for the new broadband to be switched over (FTTC). You may be able to start your transfer request 10 days before to minimize any price rise on BT out of contract although we are talking days here.Plusnet hub2 is a rebadged BT smart hub 2 which i had and was very stable and good wifi reach0
