Some useful information there, my friend was just looking at KCM clinic in Poland and they have 17% bad reviews on Trust pilot, thanks for the heads up!

Are you an easy to deal with patient or very nervous? I am very tempted to learn more about your dentist, However really I must find someone suitable for my friend
The thing about dental treatment is that most patients (including me) do not know enough to tell whether or not they were treated properly. Obviously we can all tell about pain management and personal manner, but not the actual technical operation. So reviews are pretty useless: a dentist with a good manner can give a patient a satisfactory experience and get good reviews, and only months later does the patient discover that the treatment was useless or harmful. I have no idea whether that is true of a treatment like weight-loss surgery.

Personally I am pretty easy to deal with as a dental patient -- my advice is to find a professional society that is relevant to the specialist treatment that you need and read its rules on membership: a society that is open to anyone who simply pays the fee is useless. You may need an add-on to your web browser to enable you to read web sites in other languages. Then, when you have found a society whose members are likely to be good at doing what you need, look at the names and addresses of the members and start contacting them.

Not sure on your mileage from Devon to Istanbul of 1004 miles?  Most of the route planners I’ve looked at are showing double the mileage (and of course the travel time)

Good point - OP seemed to caveat their mileage/time with 'once I'm in Germany', but even from the south-eastern tip of Germany it still looks more like 1750km and 18.5 hours to Istanbul, ignoring the first half of the journey just to get that far!

1004 miles would be the 'as the crow flies' distance...

From a starting point in Germany that the OP seemed to have chosen

@devondisplay whatever the ins/outs/personal views of medical tourism the thought of the return journey with a recently operated on patient doesn't really bear thinking about (unless you're looking at weeks in Turkey post-op) - even sitting on the (relatively) short flight is (apparently) a challenge in the days/early weeks post-op let alone tens of hours in a car

....which might be an appropriate measure if flying, but irrelevant if intending to drive, so if OP is planning a long drive then best to do so using distances as measured along actual roads!

Don't forget to research the driving rules for all the countries you pass through, don't assume they're the same as here. Loads of things could be different, speed limits on motorways, country roads and urban roads, these vary by country and in some countries town signs mean change in speed limit, some countries require headlights on all the time, rules like overtaking stopped school buses, illegal in some countries, drink driving limits vary a lot, in some countries it's very low and you could be over the limit if you drive the morning after you've had a moderate amount the night before.
Some countries require you to have equipment in the car such as fire extinguisher, spare light bulbs, high viz gilets (in France they must be in the main car not boot!), warning triangles (IIRC Spain requires 2), breathalysers (France used to require these, not sure if still the case). Some countries require a vingette to drive on motorways and you'll get a fine if you don't have one, some countries have rules on emission levels in city areas and you might need to register or buy a sticker (eg crit'air in France, need to pre-register for Brussels). Some countries require an international driving licence.

I just want to endorse the views of k3lvc that in practical terms I doubt your friend could travel for weeks after that surgery. I had a heart bypass and had to get a taxi home from the hospital, only a 30-minute drive with a cushion between me and the seat belt, it was agony and I was in tears by the time we got home. The thought of driving across Europe is beyond all comprehension

My GP had a gastric band fitted by keyhole surgery.

He had a 200 mile taxi journey home.

He said, despite the taxi driver driving no more the 30mph, the journey was agony.
