Snails getting into hot tubs?

I have a 5-seater hot tub (not a blow-up one) with a 150cm thick insulated cover on the top.
Anyway, I have found two snails in it on separate occasions.
I wonder if anyone here has had any experience of this happening, or any ideas about how they get in?

Probably been in there since they were tiny.1

Really?
Would they survive in Chlorinated water?0 -
No, they wouldn't survive in water at all - unless they were water snails, which is vanishingly unlikely. They've squeezed in under the top and got trapped. Why would snails not like a hot tub as much as the next guy? If they are still alive, just let them loose in the garden. If they are dead, just fish 'em out and fling them into the bushes. Your insulated cover is not designed as a snail-proof lid. Wildlife happens!fzbob said:Really?

Is it a round cover that folds in half.
I suspect they have got in at the “fold” which is not totally sealed.
I presume they are in the lid and not in the water?
there isn’t really any way to keep stuff out but sometimes you do need to replace the cover.
They do eventually get heavy and seal less well meaning they provide less insulation.
how old is the cover?
has it become heavy? And can you see any steam coming out at the fold?1 -
If snails are using your hot tub I would insist that they remove their shells before entering the water. This may make them a bit sluggish though.6

Add some vegetables, herbs, and a dash of seasoning and call it soup.unforeseen said:If snails are using your hot tub I would insist that they remove their shells before entering the water. This may make them a bit sluggish though.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.2 -
No it's a square tub.lisyloo said:Is it a round cover that folds in half.

Yes I thought they may be getting in through the fold.
It's just over a year old, so I guess it wouldn't apply to your "heavy" sugestion
I'll have to do something about that.
Thanks for all the replies (some funny) guys

Shouldnt be the age then.
mine have lasted about 9 years, but you can visibly see steam out of sides when they are sub-optimal.
I’m always pulling the leftovers of wood lice (we have wooden railway sleepers in our garden), spiders and worms out of mine, so I think it’s just part of the less glamorous side of hot tub ownership if you put it outside.1 -
Crikey, Worms!!! how on earth (excuse the pun) do they manage to get in?lisyloo said:Shouldnt be the age then.

I guess I'll have to put up with mother nature then.
