We've just offered on a house and one of the things that crossed my mind when looking was how the street name sounded, and how I would feel about saying it out loud everytime I got a taxi, had to tell someone my address etc! Not just whether it sounded nice, but whether I'd always have to spell it out too. We did look at a house in a street with a French name which frankly sounded ridiculous and affected in our northern accent! Of course it wouldn't really have stopped me if it was my dream house, but thankfully the one we've offered on has got a short, pleasant street name!0

Advice1234 said:And is there a possibility house prices will be impacted ?This is about the only thing we can really comment on with a good degree of certainty - the impact on house prices (positive/negative) will almost certainly be factored in already. The amount any noise/vibration may impact on you depends as much on your susceptibility as it does on the physical factors relating to the types of train/construction/distance etc.1

I looked at a flat in Binns Place. Didn't buy it because there was a funny smell about the lease.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

I had friends who loved on New Butt Lane. Well, better than Old Butt Lane, I suppose...2

We live about 500m away from a train line, up hill and relatively open. We can see the train going past but we can't hear it. We can hear it's horn if the wind is blowing towards us (which is lovely).1

Near me we have Butts Close....fortunately, not that close!. It always seems to be council and low value properties that get these dodgy street names or the sort that need a foreign accent to avoid sounding unpleasant. Livarot Walk, for example. Some older names are now very Un-PC and I can foresee a time when residents may ask for a revision. Slaparse Lane here in Devon would be a case in point. But what to do about Crapstone? That's a whole village!Back to HS2 and it occurs to me that if they were to use steam trains house values would rocket. That seems to be the case in the sleepy area of Somerset I visited this week, where many villagers love seeing the engines and some spend their retirement years literally 'working on the railway.'0
