I hope Nationwide will contact us with the reason as there are so many different possible reasons for this 'error.'0

Yep, I got this too, didn't make any sense at all. Ultimately it's not something I'm going to lose sleep over, but will be interesting to see if any more information is forthcoming...1

I had the same message and also wondered whether it may have been connected to a possible Visa to Mastercard change,2

Same here. My 10+ year old Nationwide credit card is due to be removed, and a new Nationwide credit card (which I didn't apply for) is to be added.
I am not losing any sleep over it though I am a bit miffed that removing a 10 year old account might put a dent in the average length I have held accounts for.
Clearscore/Equifax doesn't appear to get used by many lenders. They say I have had zero hard searches in the last 6 months (they remove hard searches after 6 months), when according to Experian (who only remove hard searches after 12 months), there were 4 since April, which seems to tally with reality.

The new "account number" is now visible on Credit Karma (Transunion). Last 3 digits onlyI am not expecting a new card, the old one has a long way to run.I still see a 6-year credit history for this card on my file.I suspect that Nationwide are now reporting using an internal account number, rather than the card number.
