PIP Renewal delay

Hi everyone.  It seems my PIP was extended in March for 6 months due to the Covid delay.  I filled my new application in and sent it back in June.  I had a texted in August asking to contact them due to the delay and my case was processing.  I know we have had a few strikes with Royal Mail recently, but am getting a little anxious now as not had any correspondence since.  I am worried that I will just receive a letter saying I am no longer eligible without even having a re-assessement.  Is that how it works as my PIP with the 6 months extension comes to an end in a weeks time.

Generally speaking your award remains in place until a decision is taken on your renewal application. The only exception to this would be if your award was granted by a tribunal with a fixed end date although I'm not sure that applies at the moment as there are large delays to PIP renewals currently.

Maybe ask on the benefits board where some regular posters are better informed on things like this.

    Hi again.

So my PIP was extended from March 2022 to Decemeber 2022 due to delays caused by the Pandemic.  Anyway, I still have not had a decision letter through, just 2 texts over the last 2 months saying that they still have my form and will be progressing my review as soon as they can.  I will still receive my payments until they have reviewed it.  I am getting a little anxious now.  Does this sound normal to you?   Also my blue badge ran out in December when my PIP would of ended which is affecting my financially as I have to pay to park in the hospital or in town now.   Is anyone else in the same situation?  Thanks

You are not alone with the delays. In some areas reviews are taking over a year. The longest i've heard so far is 18 months, yes you did read correctly. There are also others that have been waiting about a year.

You can ring PIP to ask if they can send you a letter to say your PIP has been extended and then you can use this to claim your new blue badge.

Try applying direct to your local council. That is how we got ours (Mrs) before she got PIP. As you have a pip renewal in it should be no problem.

  • Mine was due for renewal in November 2020. I got the form in June 2022. Sent in back and I got 2 text heard nothing since.

I wouldn't worry, they'll get to you at some point. Seems they are prioritising new claims, only when that dies down they'll have a backlog of renewals to do.

Just an update everyone.  I did contact DWP again going through the options of change of circumstances.  I spoke to a lovely person who informed me that me award had been extended until December 2023 now but they weren't automatically sending out letters informing people of their extensions.  What she is doing is sending me a revised proof of award on expiry date letter in the post.

    Thanks again.
