Is this a ‘threat’ to make me go over to the dark side to a Smart Meter?

Eventually (2025?) you won't have a choice, smart meters will be mandatory.

You can refuse to have a smart meter installed in your home if you do not want one. However, choosing not to have a smart meter will mean you will miss out on many benefits.

Smart meters are indeed voluntary. You can opt out UNLESS your meter is deemed by the supplier to be end-of-life. In EOL situations, BEIS has said that suppliers can fit a smart meter WITHOUT the homeowner’s permission. They can also get a Warrant of Entry to do so if the meter is located within the property. This right is enshrined in The Gas and Electricity Acts.
Whether it happens in 2025 or later is a debatable point. What is not in doubt is that the rollout of smart meters will continue with, or without, the home occupier’s approval.0 -

Recent evidence to the BEIS Committee:"Many energy suppliers have suffered shortfalls in the deliveries of smart metering equipment as a result of smart metering device manufacturers being unable to secure sufficient volumes of semiconductor materials to meet demand.
“The medium-term outlook for an improvement in the availability of semiconductor materials is highly uncertain, which could (if the current situation continues) result in some energy suppliers having to reduce the number of smart meter installations available to consumers as early as quarter 4 2022 / quarter 1 2023.”

I am with EDF on Economy 7 and have a non-smart meter plus a separate sealed clock with a 24-hr dial going round showing my switch times between cheap night rate and day rate. Is this a RTS system, and must I change by 31 March 24 to a smart meter - my message from EDF implies this?

No, it's just a simple motorised timeswitch not a radio teleswitch. You won't be affected if the Radio 4 Long Wave signal no longer carries the RTS data.0

Bad advice by the " deleted user " to wrap the meter and hub in tin foil. That is classed as a meter tamper.1
