Claim Travel Expenses

Most students, also, don't realise that you can get 50% of your expenses paid in term 1 by emailing them, and requesting it - only if you are experiencing financial hardship though!
I did exactly this and got my 50% paid within 7 days in November.
You have to apply for the other 50% as normal though from December 17th onwards.
Can't fault the travel expenses claim process tho - always works great for me and I always get my award paid direct to my bank account, without them requesting details of proof (which saves a hell of a lot of time!), within 14 days.0 -
Yes there are conditions to the claim, you must travel by the cheapest possible option to your uni, you cannot be within walking distance and they pay a maximum of 800 and you must pay the first 150 yourself.
I bet none of you spend as much on travelling as I do! I travel 60 miles to uni (60 miles back too) and my traveling comes to over £1300 and i only get £800 back, but I aint complaining, if I moved away I would get nothing back!0 -
So any student can get this? I travel 60 miles once a week (lucky as my course is on two consecutive days), I could claim back petrol costs? No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Gemmzie, the answer is no. I don't think SAAS will pay for petrol costs, I'm sure there is some sort of conditions for it. You also have to be Scottish.
I'm missing my Zonecard. I don't travel enough to buy one but train fares are really hitting me in the pocket.0 -
what about those who live and study in England?0

Well if SAAS aren't paying your tuition then you won't be able to claim travel expenses. As far as I know English students get more in their maintenance loans and grants, but I don't really know much about it. Don't take anything to do with the English system really.0 -

Ok. Thanks for your reply anyway, just thought maybe I will have some luck.

Hiya
Regarding claiming for petrol costs, for the past 2 years I have successfully claimed the full amount in petrol costs, I got the full award available after explaining that there was no other mode of transport that I could have used. It costs me 45 pounds a week to travel to and from university from where I live.
hope this helps.
