My IHD (In Home Display) has been showing at the bottom the following message for the last few days: "Electricity supply disconnected"

What does that mean??? I still have electricity, haven't had any power cuts.

  • Hi,
could be lost wifi connection or some other glitch.
Try unplugging and allowing to totally drain, then plug in again.

Central energy co computer has turned off your meter readings as they are so overwhelmed with easy money they don't know what to do with it?

It has happened to me a couple of times. It seems to be associated with the supplier deploying a meter firmware update. I would give it a couple of days before you report it to your supplier.

I reported it to EDF. The CS on chat said it meant the IHD couldn't connect to the Smart Meter anymore.

I told him it's highly unlikely, since the IHD shows a good signal and hasn't been moved. After a reboot, data got displayed again in seconds (as well as the same message).

He told me to wait a few days, "issue will fix itself"...
  • You probably don't want to hear this, but I've had the same message for around two months now.  Dozens of phone calls, engineer visits, complaint made - nobody seems to know what to do!
If you do get this sorted, then I'd love to know about how you go about it.

I put my dysfunctional IHD in a cupboard many months ago. Despite numerous "chats" with EDF, they never managed to resolve the issue.

Bonkers, given all the adverts at the moment encouraging us to get a Smart Meter so we can monitor our usage.

At least the meter is working correctly and recording the peak/off-peak rates/times correctly on our tariff.

I now use the Bright App to monitor our daily consumption and recently invested £10 in a TP-Link Tapo plug in socket to monitor individual 3 pin plug outlet consumption.

    Any resolve on this ?
Happening to my EDF Chameleon 3 today.  Says used today 3.25 kwk and scrolls back and forth with the "Electricity supply disconnected" message.
Think ill leave it alone in case its update like Dolor suggests might be.
Ah the electricity used still increases though.

Software updates are the Achilles heel of our smart meter system. They are produced by individual meter and device manufacturers and tested and certified on the DCC network before deployment.

A year or so ago, my Kaifa meter started returning an empty 30 minute data file on the daily data pull. As Octopus bills some tariffs on 30 minute data ( not index readings) then this was a problem. In the event, it took Kaifa 7 months and 3 firmware updates to finally resolve the issue. Clearly, there was nothing that Octopus could do but put pressure on the meter manufacturer. Given the size of Kaifa, a supplier with just 100k of its meters deployed is a minor market player.
  • This happened (and still is) to my Chameleon type 1 and EDF (Economy 7), some months ago. It does not affect the consumption figures displayed, which appear correct. So I have not bothered to contact EDF.
Because we are on Economy 7 the meter reading displayed is the current one. Cannot read Offpeak during the day!! Did the smart meter designers not know Economy 7 existed?
