  • When you switch suppliers, you need to make sure you give the old supplier a closing meter reading so they don't have to rely on estimated ones (although in this case there were smart meters so they shouldn't have needed to).

In fact, when switching suppliers, you give the meter readings to the NEW supplier.  These are then passed via an independent industry body for checking, to the OLD supplier. It doesn't matter if there is some adjustment or if they are estimated on the bills, the important thing is that the closing readings on the bills from the OLD supplier match the opening readings from the NEW supplier.
The main error in this case is the incorrect gas meter reading entered for 29 July. When that is fixed everything else should fall into place.

I'm going to pop them a call today/tomorrow and get it sorted. Hopefully, it won't be a long call with them.

The meter readings have also been submitted to the 'new' supplier via the app this morning.

I've contacted EON and she said to email in pictures of the meter readings. I have done this and this is the response that I have got back.

I have looked at your bill and I can see that the billing is correct as we did bill you up to the 22nd of August, which was the date that your supply ended with us.

I still believe that the bill amount is incorrect? What do you think? @jbuchanangb @QrizB @[Deleted User]

  • Sounds like they've misunderstood your point.  You weren't querying whether they had billed you up to 22 Aug.

Have you had an electricity bill for the period up to 22 Aug?

The opening reading for the small period of time you were with E.ON was wrong.  That is the point you need to be questioning.

    - Nope, I have not.

I'm going to have to ring them again, I can't believe that they think the bill is correct.

@[Deleted User] I have rang them again and spoken to someone, she mentioned that the previous tenant has emailed with the meter readings, I believe they may have been wrong.

She was adamant that I gave the readings on 29th/30th July 2022 - I told her I can categorically tell you that it wasn't me nor was it anyone else, I haven't even moved in nor does anyone even live in the property!

She's going to speak to the adviser that initially replied back to me saying the bill amount is correct. Mysteriously as I was speaking to her on the phone and she mentioned that she would get this amended, this bill has landed that is now showing the electricity bill.

Ok - I've got another email from EON Next. It seems to be the final bill for both the electricity & gas. @[Deleted User]

    That seems reasonable, doesn't it?
