Barclaycard ‘Scam’ - not taking full amounts by Direct Debit

I have a Barclaycard and have set a Direct Debit to pay the statement amount in full every month.
For the last three months, I’ve been getting texts, just before the payments are due, stating ‘We’re taking xxx.xx amount as a direct debit. Please note this does not cover the full statement amount’
is this a scam - just to make it look like I haven’t paid in full every month? I end up having to make a website payment to make up the difference, so the xxx.xx amount taken by direct debit will then cover the outstanding statement amount. If this goes on, I’m chucking Barclaycard as unreliable.

Does anyone else have this problem? One time, about a year ago, they charged me a £12 late fee, until I objected and the fee was returned!
what’s going on…are they just hoping to trap unwary customers with this…?
it just goes to show that if any card company offers txts on payments due, then set them up…

Pick up the phone and ask them to investigate, you'll get a better answer than here.1

What does the statement say is being taken ?How does that differ from the actual amount taken ?How does that compare to the minimum payment ?As above, get on the phone, cards do not suddenly start taking some random amount, something has triggered it.3

My Barclaycard has operated flawlessly since I got it a couple of years ago.
It may be that your manual payments are causing the imbalances in the direct debit amount.
The best thing is to call them - and work out how to settle it back into taking the full direct debit each month, and don't then make any manual payments.2 -
Barclaycard are unusual over this, whilst their statements specify they will collect a DD and give a date they will collect it, unlike every other provider I've ever used, they don't specify on the statement the amount they will collect. You do however get a notification some days before the due date specifying how much and when it will be collected.
As others have said, it's not a scam. If you have asked for the whole statement balance to be collected and this is not happening phone Barclaycard and ask them why this is not happening.0 -
I get the same, but I am making manual payments to cover payments made to amazon from the card, I can confirm I am paying no interest. So I think its just informing part of the balance is covered by the manual payments, but in bad wording.0

OP either made an interim payment, or received a refund.
Using Curve to "Go Back In Time" can create a refund that alters the DD.
Nothing to worry about. No scam.0 -
Some card providers for example lloyds will take the statement amount no matter what - so for example if you make a payment after the statement they will still direct debit the full statement amount
other card providers and I believe barclays is one of them adjust the direct debit according to what has happened since the statement - for example if you have made a payment or received a refund0 -
You may have a negative experience with Barclaycard, but it seems highly unlikely/impossible that a major global bank would risk their reputation, to deliberately try and fiddle a customer out of a few quid in some kind of scam.2

Likewise with Barclaycard sometimes they do not collect the billed amount in full. This can be caused by strange things. For example, they bill me £400 on 10th of month, DD due on 30th. On 15th I spend £200 on goods, but on 16th I return the goods, resulting in a £200 credit to the Barclaycard account. Barclaycard will notice the credit, and on 30th they will DD only £200. The bill on 10th of following month will have both the charge and the credit, and £200 charges from previous month are rolled forward interest free.
