Our tank is enclosed in whatever it is as lagging.  It is on for an hour or less a day.  The water is nearly boiling but I’ve no idea how to reduce it as can’t see any temp control dials.
If you have a normal 3kW immersion and it's on for less than an hour a day, there's no way for it to be using an extra 8-12 units of electricity.
What exactly makes you think it's the immersion using the power?

Because I check my electricity daily and it’s only since I had to use it my electric units have risen from around 8 a day to 18 to 20 a day.  We were 7 adults and a fully functioning kitchen so I was happy with only an hour giving me enough hot water but not happy with the cost.
Whatever is using the extra electricity, it isn't the immersion heater *unless* you've got an unusual heating system with a 10kW immersion heater.
What is the rating marked on your immersion heater? Does it have a regular 13A fused spur on a 12A MCB or is it different?
I have oil heating and a heatra stadia high spec mega flo tank with immersion switch to put on immersion.  Now my 5 guests have left it is down to a more manageable 3 or 4.  I have no idea where the immersion heater actually sits to see what the specs are.   This is the first time I’ve ever had to use one.

"The government did say there would be a payment of £100 to households across the UK who are not covered by the price guarantee."

Unfortunately the govt didn't say how.
So I still am waiting to order my oil, will I get a voucher to use with it? Will it come off the bill? Some other way?
    HOW?

It would have been much easier if they'd just ditched the VAT.

    Still waiting, getting colder.

Did you see the UKIFDA statement? No-one knows, not even the Government.

I hope that the waiting game works out for you, but the price of my recent 1000L delivery has gone up by £70  in the period since I gave up waiting!

Good advice Apodemus, I have just ordered. Really hope I still get my 100 pounds somehow.

If not, it'll be unfair as we are being advised not to wait.

Quote from the UKIFDA statement of 27/09/2022 :

"Inevitably this will take some time, so we strongly recommend that customers do not wait if they need heating oil. We are working closely with the government to find a solution and ensure that heating oil households receive their £100 as soon as possible."
