Your first mistake was going to Halfords.

The first mistake was putting the wheel nuts on the wrong way round.Bigwheels1111 said:Your first mistake was going to Halfords.
The holes are a loose fit, it's the bevels on the nuts which prevent the wheel rotating against the hub elongating the holes. Although the wheel might be clamped tight, the forces such as braking hard from 70mph are extreme.
The answer is to put the issue right, not cover it over so it can't be seen.8 -
This is really serious, if you can't see that having wheel nuts on backwards is dangerous then I suggest you leave anything to do with car maintenance to someone else. The MOT tester has really done you a favour pointing out the error.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

I don't think they would want to touch such a basic error.Billxx said:The bevel sinks the nut snugly into the wheel and centres it. A bit harsh failing an MOT on that when it takes two minutes to take the nut off the spigot and turn it over. Rotten luck!1 -
Nah, she goes like a dream with her wheels and nuts combo, my team of mechanics have years of experience in this field, aka money saving experts0

flat nut-side for a flat sided wheel, you cant beat it0

The wheels being used with Flat sided nuts may or may not be OK - BUT - You are not using the correct wheels for the model of the car. They may well fit but that does not mean they are right.
I would question the comment ** my team of mechanics have years of experience in this field,** against the manufacturers specification of the vehicle which says it should have a different wheel to the ones you have fitted.
In the event of an accident then the insurance company may well disclaim any liability if you have not informed them of the change of wheels.
Before Alloy wheels became more or less standard a lot of people fitted them and often in the morning found the car on bricks. The insurance claims were rejected in many cases as people had not informed the insurance.
