How can a £2500 price cap be quoted for average user if the unit costs aren"t known?0
-
Because that's just a press release at the moment - and the way the cap works anyway is that they decide a number in £££ and then work out what the unit costs would need to be to make it add up right.pensioner2 said:How can a £2500 price cap be quoted for average user if the unit costs aren"t known?1 -
This isn't the first thread where the mysterious delights of 1980s CALMU meters have been reminisced over. However, smart meters permit 48 separate 30-minute tariffs every day, and for those all to change every day. CALMU didn't come anywhere close.(I also have fond memories of the 1980s but mostly they're because I was 40 years younger with more hair and fewer responsibilities.)N. Hampshire, he/him. After years of installing smart meters, we still do not have the flexibility of the old CALMU, which worked and allowed me to save money. Will the smart meters we are all paying for ever be used to allow charges to vary in different times? Many things have improved since 1982 but paying for energy is not one of them. 40 years of progress?0
-
What do you mean by allowing "charges to vary in different times"? Do you mean meters that work with tariffs like Intelligent Octopus, that gives you 6 hours of cheap electricity for a set price, but it can vary when you get it, like Agile Octopus, which has has dynamic half-hourly pricing based on wholesale rates, or something else?pensioner2 said:After years of installing smart meters, we still do not have the flexibility of the old CALMU, which worked and allowed me to save money. Don't worry, the OP has written the same thing four times now, no matter what points others raise or what questions they ask.tripled said:

Because I believe the price cap defines the unit prices, not the other way round.pensioner2 said:How can a £2500 price cap be quoted for average user if the unit costs aren"t known?
Just be patient and we'll all have the info. There is no reason anyone needs to know this second.0 -
The CALMU had 5 set price tariffs like economy 7, but in different time zones, reflecting the cost of generating electricity. Some circuits also had a favourable tariff if they allowed interruption. Some energy providers are at last starting to offer these services. 40 years later.0
