Energy Price Guarantee (announced 8 Sep): initial reaction & questions
Options
Update: read MSE's news story with Martin Lewis's instant reaction - and now a video too:

And another video (15 September) for people on fixes:

Hi all
We've created this thread to gather in one place some of the initial reaction and questions arising from Liz Truss's announcement about updated Government measures to respond to the energy bills situation.
The Prime Minister is expected to speak in the House of Commons at about 11.30am.
Obviously Martin and MSE's team will be watching closely and will be publishing lots of new material throughout the day to summarise the information we're all waiting to hear about how today's plans will affect our bills.
Please be assured that our MSE colleagues are keenly aware of the groups not always included in the headline announcements, like those who rely on heating oil, or pay a third party for their energy rather than having a direct contract with a supplier. We may not get all the answers today, but MSE will certainly be asking the questions, and will share news when we have it.
On Tuesday Martin wrote a blog post setting out his initial take on the rumoured Government action - whatever today brings, it remains a good summary.
We may merge some other threads into this one if necessary, to try to keep the Energy board easy to navigate.

It would be better if I knew what time to tune in, rather than having to have the TV on all day, in the hope of seeing Martin being interviewed.0

I think I will wait until the actual details are published by the government/OFGEM.2

Hi James. you just locked a thread where we had a friendly betting pool on the cap. now we can't announce or celebrate the closest guess.
can you please open it back up again?

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
Also closed a good discussion thread of mine without merging as suggested above.
Oh to have the power @MSE_James
Expect to be ignored.0 -
Does anyone have a round about guess on what the unit cost will be capped at? I saw someone suggest 33-34p for electricity but haven't seen anything for gas. Thanks0
