Price Cap - Get Your Crystal Ball Out and Place Your Bets :)
Options
OK everyone, the time has come to get your crystal balls out and give us all your best "final score" predictions....
There's been lots of discussion about the so-called price cap over the last few days and we've now been promised an announcement tommorrow. Without repeating the debate or discussing the rights and wrongs of it all, or what you would like to happen, what's your best guess for what will actually be announced:
1. The "headline" price cap for a typical dual-fuel customer blah blah blah (to the nearest £1 so we can determine a winner)
2. What will happen to standing charges?
3. What will happen about the £400 pay-out
4. What will happen with fixes
5. What happens with VAT on energy?
6. What will happen to the so-called green levies?
7. Any other significant announcements
As well as the obvious bragging rights, the person who gets closest will be awarded the title of "holder of the shiniest ball"
Emotions have been running high so lets keep this thread light and friendly

I have my yellow card ready for anyone who doesn't play nicely. As
Mum used to say, it isn't the winning and losing that matters it's how
you play the game....
To kick things off, here are my predictions:
1. £2,399
2. Standing charge element at October level
3. No change to the £400 pay-out
4. Energy companies will be obligated to waive charges for anyone wishing to leave a fixed deal
5. There will be no VAT on energy bills and the £2,399 is what we'll pay with no VAT
6. The so-called green levies will be scrapped in name only and paid by the Gov't and the £2,399 is what we'll pay after they've been scrapped
7. This will all be added to the national debt with no need for us to pay it back via future energy bills

7. The big energy producers will continue to make massive profits, only now they will be subsidised by the workers. Privatise the profits and nationalise the risk - it's the Tory way.2
-
1. £2,641
2. Standing charge element at October level
3. No change to the £400 pay-out
4. People can leave their fixes with the exit fee funded in the background by the government (but probably hidden)
5. VAT unchanged
6. Green levies unchanged
7. Part recovered from general taxation, part from future cap levels and part from not reducing SC after SOLR has dropped out.
And I also predict a yellow card for What_time_is_it.0 -
No yellow card for What_time_is_it but he is currently sitting on the naughty step while he considers whether his response is appropriate in the context of this thread

Whatever they decide opponents will say:
a) It isn't anywhere near enough
b) It is being funded in completely the wrong way3 -
Here's my guess
1. The "headline" price cap for a typical dual-fuel customer blah blah blah (to the nearest £1 so we can determine a winner): £2,505
2. What will happen to standing charges? They will reduce (see Q5 and 6) but this will be reflected in the overall price cap
3. What will happen about the £400 pay-out? Goes ahead as planned
4. What will happen with fixes? No news tomorrow, problem will be acknowledged and we will be told to wait for more details.
5. What happens with VAT on energy? Zero rated for a temporary period (but this is factored into the answer to Q1)
6. What will happen to the so-called green levies? Paused temporarily (also factored in)
7. Any other significant announcements? Some measure to help small businesses - not sure what though

1. £2,464
2. Standing charge element at October level
3. £400 payout cancelled
4. No waiving of exit fees
5. VAT unchanged
6. Green levies unchanged
7. Covered by general taxation
0 -
1. £2,562 (so they can keep the £2500 headline)
2. Standing charge element at April level
3. £400 payout goes ahead
4. Exit fees waived (energy companies would make more money if this happened as they can sell the cheap hedged energy for full price cap to govt)
5. VAT unchanged
6. Green levies unchanged
7. No real plan. Probably talk of being partly funded by a potential future windfall tax (as Labours proposal did, despite only a tiny% being actually funded that way) and the rest to be figured out later. Doubt there will be specific repayment plans.

1. £2666 (muahahaha)
2. October Level
3. We will still get the £400 as planned
4. Fixes will remain as they are
5. VAT will remain as it is
6. Green Levies abolished
7. We will all be given mice to generate our own energy from a spinning wheel. Coining a new phrase "Let them eat cheese"
