Price Cap - Get Your Crystal Ball Out and Place Your Bets :)

Did you notice the strange phrasing in the media coverage?
"This will be achieved through a new Energy Price Guarantee which limits the price suppliers can charge customers for units of gas"
Which could be read as leaving the electricity part of the existing cap structure alone.0 -
I was on a fix with British Gas and was 57p sc and 37p per kw. However early this morning I asked them to be me back on the variable one. They agreed and did not charge me the exit fee.0

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Have to wait and see what the price per unit will be. I'm on a fix for electricity at 27.63p until mid 2024.ariarnia said:so the answer is 2500 headline
unit rates to follow so no idea about standing charge
frozen for two years. also said two winters
green levy frozen
400 remaining
people on fixes should e able to leave fee free (not sure if that's advice or agreed or paid for by the government)
no mention of vat0 -
BP and Shell got a good outcome for their donations then. Money well spent.
(looks at ref to see if card is coming...)0 -
This may be a daft question, but if you are on a two year fixed rate taken out a year ago (which is better than the new capped rate so you'd want to stay on it) would you still benefit from a removal of the green levies or would your bills be based solely on daily standing charge and usage per kwh?1

not a daft question but no one knows yet (well i guess some people know but they've not told the rest of us)Curious_Moose said:This may be a daft question, but if you are on a two year fixed rate taken out a year ago (which is better than the new capped rate so you'd want to stay on it) would you still benefit from a removal of the green levies or would your bills be based solely on daily standing charge and usage per kwh?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. We are in that position fixed at 29.24p kWh for electricity until 1/4/2024.Curious_Moose said:This may be a daft question, but if you are on a two year fixed rate taken out a year ago (which is better than the new capped rate so you'd want to stay on it) would you still benefit from a removal of the green levies or would your bills be based solely on daily standing charge and usage per kwh?
If green levies are scrapped I don't think the energy suppliers can legally keep the levies but they may still be able to pass them on until the fix ends.
