apps that pay you money for playing

hey techheads!
So how do these things work?? I keep getting popups on various games I play that suggest I should sign up for various apps and then activate the games through them. And then just by playing I will get paid money. The suggesting is that by playing just a few games a day will get me repeated £20 gift cards from Amazon or Uber or wherever.
Is it simply getting a cut of advertising revenue? So I'd still get all the ads. Or are they selling my data somehow? And how much does one actually get?? Realistically I would expect it to be a fraction of a fraction of a penny (or worse) for each game played.
I doubt I would ever sign up as I'm a naturally suspicious individual and know that there's no such thing as a free lunch - even if delivered by Ubereats.

Almost certainly some sort of data mining. You don't get anything for free in this world. If you don't pay with money you pay with data.1

In most cases the applications have their privacy policy and you can read if they sell your data. I think they sell your data or use your system for running any other applications. Or in like 90% of the cases they have ads and they earn on the CMP or CPC model.

Just looked at one of the common ones that pops up and apparently you only earn money if you are spending money in the games. So maybe it's a good deal if you are going to be spending money anyways but as I never have it would just be an extra layer to tat to get through to play something with an increased number of ads including on how to "earn" by increasing my status by making purchases.
