Removal of Flogas tank?

Good afternoon,

I wonder if anyone can help me. We have LPG from Flogas at present. We do not use the gas at all (it’s a very old house and we use open fires for heat, hot water and cooking). It seems silly to have the tank.

has anyone successfully had their Flogas tank removed and taken away? If so please could you advise me on your experience and the cost? Thank you xx

Hi, you say it’s a Flogas tank, so are you actually in a 2 year contract with them or have they just delivered to you when required. If your in a contract then presumably once it’s finished then you could contact an authorised builder and/or plumber/ heating engineer to decommission and remove the tank. Is it above or below ground, as this will obviously affect the cost of getting rid of it substantially. Presumably if it under ground it can be safely decommissioned and left in place in case future occupants want it reinstalled.
Sorry I can’t give any specifics. Good luck

As its the property of Flogas I would suggest you contact them to see what they want to do.
If the tank is aboveground then from a technical point of view if access from the road is no issue then it is straightforward.
If the tank is underground then you will have to see what their policy is and how the decommission.
From my experience they (if underground) can be filled with water. Of course they can never be used again after that.

Prior to the removal of the tank (when confirmed etc) do run the gas down to nothing.

For costs then only Flogas can tell you properly.

I believe that the supplier has to agree to take the tank away on request at the end of the (max 2 year) contract. This was one of the reforms brought in to make switching easier (or at least less easy to block).

Your existing supplier must sell the tank to your new supplier if the new supplier wants to buy it. You should not be charged for the removal of existing tanks.

Opening poster needs to clarify if they are in a contract or not. Mentioned that they don’t use it anymore so may not be in contract in which case Flogas (guessing they may have been last supplier, or May only have been supply on demand only) will not be responsible for it !

That's is where the new incoming  lpg firm doesn't want the existing tank as they want to fit their own, this can be for all sorts of reasons.

When a new person moves into a property and they don't want the tank yes they can ask for it to be removed, as they have no contract etc.
