"M" × 2.83 × 1.02264 × 39.1† ÷ 3.6 = Kwh x rate £ = gas charged for

where "M" is the meter reading between dates

ill use 3.142 x M as a quick check...

    You'll be wrong by 10x  then :)
31.42 x M for an imperial meter You have checked your meter type ?
And that calculation you did works out at 31.43 :)

For a quick and dirty calc, M * 11.4 gets you it in kWh on a metric meter.
4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.

Factor 11.4 is a bit on the high side, 11.2 is better even if still a bit to high.
  • Last statement (7 days worth)

    31st August - 6th September

    Consumption 2.0 Units (100s of ft3 )
    Energy Used* 61.0 kWh @ 6.935p/kWh £4.23
    Standing Charge 7 days @ 25.923p/day £1.81

    meter units× 2.83 × 1.02264 × 38.0† ÷ 3.6 = Kwh

  • in 11 months ive used 370 metered units

    11,303 Kwh of gas x (at todays rate) 7p* = £791

*(though it was half that last year)

    1.0 × 2.83 × 1.02264 × 38.0† ÷ 3.6 = 30.5

    meter x 30.5 gives kwh x rate...

Not sure what you want to proof with this?

Both posts just proof that your statement

    is wrong.

    370 x 3.142 = 1162, but you have used 11303 KWh

I use the rough dirty calculation for a gas metric meter. It's there or thereabouts.

    Units (M3)  X  11  X  Unit Rate (currently 0.075p) =  £££

    1.0 × 2.83 × 1.02264 × 38.0† ÷ 3.6 = 30.5
    1.0 x 2.83 × 1.02264 × 39.1† ÷ 3.6 = 31.4

Notice the bolded bit ?  That will be different on every bill.  38.0 is pretty much at the bottom end of quality.
