Flight Cancellation Cmoensation

Options
Hi, my son’s Ryanair flight 6 months was cancelled while they were sitting on runway ready to go, he also then missed his connecting flight,
these flights were paid for with friends credit card who received his refund about month later.
My son is continually calling Ryanair, providing information, then more paperwork, but is at the end with being totally ignored and no progress.
They had advised in beginning could not claim credit card as payment was not in his name.
Could someone please advise the best way for him to proceed.
Thank you.

    Refunded by Ryanair?

Refunds are always made to the same account that was used for payment - is that part of the problem..?

I had flights I had booked and paid for for others at the start of the pandemic and when the flights were cancelled I received the refunds. flights were not in my name but payment had been made by me and not the passengers. (this was same with BA, Easyjet and Lufthansa)
It is normal for a refund to be made to the same card that made the payment so if friend bought the tickets then refund would go to friend's card.
Has the friend checked the refund amount to ensure they have not already received your son's refund?

But you said his friend who paid for the flight on his cc received the refund?

If you are seeking a refund on the second unconnected flight then I think he will be out of luck.  Ryanair won't be responsible for the missed 2nd flight.
  • Thanks for all comments. Ryanair refunded friends credit card for friends cancelled flight only, my recollection is that they said couldn’t process my son’s via friend because of GDPR.  Seems that his friend should raise directly through his credit card for my son as Ryanair are failing to respond?

Did son's friend make a refund claim just for himself then, or for the two passengers on the booking?
  • Ryanair only allowed friend to claim for himself back in March unfortunately!

These seems rather strange.  I've cancelled (or had them cancel) a few flights with Ryanair in the last couple of years and every time Ryanair have refunded all passengers to the lead booker on the card used for purchase.  It was a very easy automated process (although I maybe recall an option to claim for all passengers, or just particular passengers)

Is the booking still live on the Ryanair website? Can your son or his friend log in? I assume you've used the "Apply for a refund online" button here Flight Cancellations – Ryanair Help Centre.  It asks to log in, can your son's friend try and that and see if he can claim?
  • Yes, he has done all of that.  I believe 3 out of 4 been refunded individually, but they never do what they say for him and constantly having to phone.  He is away just now and I’ll have proper chat with him when back, with all the helpful info, and ask his friend to chase through credit card.
    Thanks for all the advice.
