Car Hire Condition, Cost and Equivalent to Agreed Car?

Hi,

I am just back from a family summer holiday to a Greek island. When we arrived to collect the car booked for 10 days, it was not what I had expected given the booking details and condition. I know that in some countries costs have risen dramatically due to supply chain issues, but we paid some £480 for 10 hire for a very poor condition, beaten up Nissan Micra with 85,000 kms on the clock. The booking was made on the basis of it being an Opel Corsa or similar. I assumed the condition would at least be reasonable at that price. Most hire cars I've booked in other countires, even this year, have been relatively new and about 30% of the cost in comparison.

The brakes and transmission made a lot of noise. The car interior was very worn, with marks all over the exterior. The hub cap covers were held on with cable ties. Not much worked inside in terms of AC, radio, lighter charging points etc. It didn't give us much reassuarnce in terms of safety.

I complained at collection, but they would not offer me any other car and they only had other Micras on the forecourt. Once having taken the car, I then felt nervous about complaining in case they raised an issue upon its return. What can be done now the booking has ended and is this being experienced across the board by others?

Thanks,

T23
