Appliance choice for kitchen refit - energy guzzlers?

I'm currently designing my new kitchen. Have been looking at hobs and ovens. Was going to go for a compact combi oven microwave but there is so little choice and they don't appear to be energy rated.
So I am back to considering the Samsung Duo Flex which can be used as one large oven or two smaller ones and has a fancy door. It says the max output is 3650-3950W but that using the small oven saves about 21% energy. It mentions 1.05kwh, 0.68kwh and 0.71kwh per cycle although I understand that info is a little useless. It is A+ rated for large oven but A rated for two smaller ovens. Is this going to be a power guzzler? I've no idea what is normal watts for an oven.
The induction hob is rated at 7.2kw, so I'm assuming that's 1800W per ring. Is this a power guzzler as far as hobs go? There is a setting to reduce the output to 6kw, 4kw, or 2.5kw which is for lesser wiring but I thought I could lower it if it's too greedy to 6kw assuming that I'll still be happy with how it cooks things.
Of course I am thinking about energy usage as I don't want to buy nice appliances and find them super greedy that I can't afford to run them. Am I overthinking this?

  • Lower power hob means longer to heat whatever is on it - overall energy use about the same.

kW isn't the important thing, what matters is the kWh consumed for the complete task.

I just stumbled across this site, just viewing myself but may be useful to you as it's not just for ovens and seems to take into account the October price cap

    Because a 900w microwave will use 900w.   A 1200w microwave will use 1200 watts

I will leave the rest to someone else as I haven't looked into ovens/hobs yet but is something I plan to.  So, I will follow with interest.

Our Bosch induction hob came with a 3 pin plug which limits power to 3.7 KW and we have never had an issue running four rings.

Thanks, these appliances are both hard wired, I like that idea as my current hob reduces power when more rings are used and it's annoying that things take forever to boil for instance.

Yes I get that re microwave but the oven part didn't list any wattage rating. But I kinda decided I didn't like the small choice on offer for compact built ins.....and they cost the same to buy as the normal oven anyway, and I worry that they are not powerful ovens and I'll not be happy with it.

I know, induction is most efficient, so that's why I may be overthinking this one?

Thank you that's realy interesting. My potential model isn't listed but it gives an idea of costs of similar rated ovens. But who knows how they work out the annual cost.

Be a little careful when considering microwave oven power consumption. A 900w microwave will probably draw closer to 40% or 50% more.

As an example, here's the link to a sharp 900W microwave. It states the power consumption as 1450 Watts.

If running cost is a factor for you, why are you not looking at a gas hob and oven? KWh for kWh, electric ones will cost you about 350% more to run. Do you have mains gas available?
There's some slight loss in efficiency, but not nearly enough to offset the vastly lower energy cost with gas.
