These replies are sort of correct* in terms of consumer rights but if the goods come with a warranty does that not form part of the contract?tasticz said:no rights unfortunately, amazon can repair, replace or refund as they wish.
There's a lot of info online about extended warranties but I couldn't find anything about free warranties that come with the goods.
Does this mean a warranty is effectively worthless if it isn't upheld or does the consumer have any redress against the trader for breach of contract? It would be interesting to know the correct legal position regarding enforcement of a free warranty.
*I say sort of correct as the consumer is entitled to a repair or replacement, subject to caveats, and is then entitled to a refund or price reduction if those caveats apply, it isn't particularly the trader's choice as such.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces1 -
Not Argumentative. Simply wanting to understand Amazons stance.scrappysphinx said:
Sorry if i'm sounding argumentative, i'm just struggling to understand why i can't seem to get a faulty product replaced under warranty, either by Amazon being a 3rd party and returning it to the manufacturer or by the manufacturer directly?
I guess Amazons standpoint is the cost of returning to manufacture is simply not worth it. Due to the staff & time taken to undertake the work. As well as requiring a computer system to cover this.
Good news is they are fully refunding you. Maybe hunt around & you may find better for less 👍
Which will be why there were the news articles about skips full of stuff thrown away by amazon.Life in the slow lane1 -
To be fair it would be grossly unfair to insist that an item be replacedmolerat said:You cannot insist on the manufacturer doing anything, you have no contract with them.Your contract is with Amazon who have consumer legislation to comply with and they are doing that with a full refund. Many electronic items such as Meraki wireless Access points have been recently on a 90 day lead time
How on earth would a supplier be supposed to hand over an effectively unobtainable item?

While its totally understandable that you would like the mobo replaced at no cost to yourself. I don't think this will happen. You seem to have two choices
1) Buy a pcie wifi card and put it in your pc (cheapest option)
2) Accept their offer of a refund and pay £50 extra for a replacement (or google and find it cheaper elsewhere).
I know neither of these options will make you jump for joy, but sometimes one has to be pragmatic.
Been having a bit of a mare with a prebuilt pc (I normally build my own, but much to my regret I didn't this time) so I really do sympathise when components/parts don't perform as they should.0 -
Why suggest a wifi card when he says his wifi is bad. He could buy one of thesedeannagone said:While its totally understandable that you would like the mobo replaced at no cost to yourself. I don't think this will happen. You seem to have two choices

Hi guys, i have already bought a usb ethernet for the time being but amazon are now being awkward. They processed the return and i got a confirmation email stating a refund of £202.99. They booked it to be collected by hermes/evri who failed to collect it yesterday. I have contacted Live chat again this morning to try and get them to rebook the collection but now they are telling me i have no option of refund, they will only offer a repair instead

I thought that you preferred the option of having the board replaced so isn't this good news?0

I did prefer having the board replaced but when gigabyte refused and Amazon agreed to return and refund I purchased a different board from a different retailer on the back of them telling me they were refunding it.
I want to minimize the downtime of the computer as it is used daily not just for gaming

Just to update. Hermes/Evri eventually did collect the motherboard and i received an email from Amazon on Monday saying they'd received the return and issued a full refund to my payment method. Money was back in my bank this money.
I've since replaced the board with an Asus Rog variant which has been working great since last Saturday and fingers crossed i don't get any issues with this one. Thanks all

Some people would buy a new board and then send back the old one, I hope you wouldn't do that.
