Our tea towels don't get a lot of use, it's just wiping the bottom of cups dry when they come out the dishwasher, that sort of thing, so they are just getting wet with clean water.

Which reminds me, our plumber seemed to think we are odd putting a small towel rail radiator in the kitchen. This made sense to us for hanging hand towels and tea towels on to dry. Does this seem odd to you?
Not in the slightest compared to some of the things I have learned today. Apparently there are sections of the community wandering about with undried nether regions or there are sections happy to use towels which others have used for this purpose.Seems we still have quite a bit of levelling up to do in the country.

It's probably at the top of Liz Truss's to-do list. Sort out people's towel use.

I have an 1800mm high bathroom ladder radiator - 3 towels hang in front of it on accessory rails.

Over my bedroom door unless it's very cold and the heated towel rail is on.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

Towel rail, screwed to the wall above the bathroom radiator.  That way, at least in the winter, the towels dry out nicely between uses.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

We have a metal thing that sits in front of the radiator in the bathroom. It's like 3 small goalposts of different sizes on a base. (Free standing towel holder?) It has my towel at the back, my OH's towel at the front, and a mat for the bathroom floor in the middle. Hand towel hangs on a hook on the back of the door. Fortunately, my towel gets the heat from the radiators when they are on, so I always have a nice warm towel on a morning. (To be fair, I work full time, and my OH is retired).

We used to hang them on the radiator but we ended up with a rusted radiator, so got this thing when the radiator was replaced.

If you have a radiator, you can get towel rails that just hook over the top of the radiator.

In our shower room we have a towel rail fixed above the radiator, near the sink, for hand towels.  Otherwise we have a 600x1500 heated electric towel warmer for the mat and the big towels.  It is on a timer which allows an hour at night and an hour in the morning, great for drying towels when the heating is not on.

Other bath/shower rooms in the house have similar arrangements.

I would think a damp towel on a wooden bannister would not do the wood any good.

A freestanding towel rail placed in front of a radiator on the landing or in a bedroom would be an alternative.
  • Surprised it’s only me, I hang mine over the top of the glass shower screen. I live alone & have hooks on the bathroom door & a radiator but I’ve always just slung the towel over the shower screen on the bath. It’s the most out of the way & always dries quickly.
