flight delay operational reasons then weather

On a recent flight home my flight was delayed for 'operational' reasons, but this became an even later delay due to storms and pushed the delay back to 3 hours 40 on arrival. Will the airline try to say no to compensation because the weather made the delay more than 3 hours? Or will my claim be accepted because had they been on time in the first place we wouldn't have been stopped by the storm?

Often airlines will split the delay time x minutes for operational and y minutes for weather. Unless the weather was only a small part of the delay it is likely a claim would be denied but you may as well try0
