Changing to LED bulbs

  • Clearly I haven't had the light bulb moment yet! but are LED bulbs very much more energy saving than the mini fluorescent jobs as pictured further up this thread?

My whole house has got those- apart from one which has a dimmer switch.
Also got a cupboard load of the things as they were free or cheap from energy companies so really loathe to cough up the spondoolies if the power used is not a mega saving. I don't have any of the really really slow to warm bulbs luckily.

  • I have changed to these in every room, 8 of them....15w and very bright. Had over 2 years now and non failed. The thing is when they do fail, would normally be a bin job for all of it. I have ready a bulb holder ( a couple of quid) to take out all the inards of it, fix in to shade and start using ordinary led bulbs in it.

Given I have been using more lighting these past few weeks, I've gone back over my weekly energy use since August.
Cannot yet see the amount used creeping up despite using current bulbs more.
    Back to being undecided!

@Floss £9 Each bulb When the 3 bulbs go in my hall and on landing I buy 6 at a time so costs 54 but that will last 10 years, the have a strange number of pins think 2 instead of normal 3 or other way around, So without changing fittings we just put up with it and buy when needed online. Luckily hall and landing lights not used that often

I'm not sure they are GU10 - maybe MR16 or GU5.3 which are all different.

I assume you have them on for around 5-6 hours on average every day over 5 years, giving over 10,000 hours of light.
