20min of oven use this morning didn't budge the thermometer on the wall opposite, But maybe it prevented it going down .1c

80% of the heat from a washer go's down the drain.

The heating times are peak Electric times and will put extra stress on the grid and wont save you if you get on a TOU tariff.

I  m already saving more than 33 %  at least off my usual electricity usage .just practicing at 27.25 p kwh electric and 7.25 p kwh gas . They can stuff their overpriced electrons and gas .I m not buying much of it
.As a test I ve got my 8 kw electric shower over in only 32 seconds actual usage of producing hot water but taking as long as like to wash myself properly . Showers should only be used to rinse on rinse off not needlessly on all the time

Its no different from any commodity that  if they profiteer or the markets are rigged as they seem to be now  I  won t purchase the goods .
Everyone I speak to is saying the same thing that they will cut back on all usage.
I m fully trained up in how to live frugally
.Its certainly not a "joyous " existence as one poster keeps saying

If 0.8kWh is used by the vacuum cleaner it will ALL generate heat. (0.8KWh for per hour is incorrect)
    Um, nope

The First Law of Themodynamics agrees with Cardew.
All* the electrical energy consumed by a vacuum cleaner ends up as heat in the room.

    * You might lose a tiny bit as noise to the rest of the world. This will be more than made up for by the energy you yourself expend pushing the vacuum cleaner around the room.

    • 100% of the energy that your electric appliances use is converted to heat. Usually, all of that is released into your home - exceptions are things like vented tumble driers that release some of the heat outdoors and the heated water that goes down the drain from a dishwasher/washing machine. But an electric oven is a great example of 100% retention in the house.
You are completely wrong on your first bullet point and things get worse from there.

What a superb click-bait title. Pity it's nonsense.

It is true that electrical appliances will give off some heat which is not completely wasted in winter but expecting any significant saving just from timing when they're used really is asking too much. The things you can vary when they're used will mostly be used when you're about to benefit from the heat by default anyway.

In my home the only two items that probably generate any heat worth talking about will be the fridge-freezer in my kitchen and the PS5 in my lounge.

I saved 35% on my monthly electric bill by turning off everything in standby mode except the fridge, freezer and router, but in the first month I didn't use a games console at all but since then I maybe use an extra 8 kWh per month on the games consoles as my monthly electric around is around 126 kWh up from 117 kWh the month that I didn't use the consoles, TV or surround sound.
Someone please tell me what money is

Isn’t that first bullet point essentially the 2nd law of thermodynamics? Feels a little courageous to call it completely wrong.

Do you mean the second or first?
It is completely wrong because 100% of the electrical energy is not converted into heat, the energy is not lost/destroyed but converted into other forms of energy rather than just heat. With a vented tumble dryer the vast majority of heat is ejected from the home, dishwashers and washing machines eject the majority of heat from the home, far more than "some", even an electric oven does not convert 100% of the energy used to heat.

The 'heat' generated by posters who cannot understand the First law of Thermodynamics, and think they are better informed than Albert Einstein, is wasted.
