Why is my electricity usage so much higher in Winter?

As other have said lighting, oven cooking, TV on more, more people inside using little bits of power here and there and boiler uses more electric once it's heating the rads.artyboy said:Obviously will need to investigate further but any obvious things that I may have missed? ...
Any ideas where that extra 500kWh of electricity is going in Winter?
A couple of things not mentioned yet....Security lights?
Do you go all out from mid November to late January?

I use battery operated seasonal LED lights outside my house in December, so no extra cost on the utility bill, just hits me with even more on batteries!

Potemtially longer running time for the pump to heat the tank in winter, too, as the incoming water might be ~20 º colderBUFF said:also boiler pump will be running in winter to circulate hot water to rads ( & to Megaflo) but not summer.

That brought a smile to my face as there are a few houses in the neighbourhood that have a bit of a reputation at Christmas. If I had to make a guess, it will be no different this year. Our security lighting is just one LED bulkhead - the driveway lights are on for longer but again it's all LED so minimal impact.Coffeekup said:

And the few external Christmas lights we have are all battery powered LEDs so a separate budget line...1 -
If your Sky Q box is not set up to record, you can put it into eco mode by pressing and holding the power button on the box for a few seconds. The light then goes red and power consumption drops considerably. When you wake it up, you do have to wait a while for it to be usable.sandy700 said:
Here is a graph from my P110 of my TV and SkyQ from 12:30 yesterday till now the peak of course is when my TV was on last night.
The 2 watt dip is when the SkyQ box goes into eco standby mode about 03:00.
My Sony Bravia 49in TV uses about 50 watts when on and is not measurable when in standby and the SkyQ varies between 27 watts and 14 watts, except around 03:00.
I'm still trying to decide whether to switch it off at night.

My previous Sky HD box used to have that feature, but with the Q box, the long press on the remote acts as the power control for the TV, I've not found any obvious way of forcing it into Eco.Magnitio said:
