When are you putting the heating on this year and what temperature and general heating advice

I fear my house getting damp if I try to be too frugal with the heating. I also wfh.
Anyway, when my house gets colder than 18 degrees early in the morning, my heating will kick in for 1 hour to aim for 18 degrees.
After that, I am going to use the 'boost' function when I get too cold. When I'm not working, I'll be buried under 3 duvets with hot water bottles.
If it gets too cold, or the humidity in my house gets too high, I'll increase my set heating hours.

It always seemed completely bonkers as they'd all sit in T-shirts and shorts during the winter.9 -
To be honest ours will go on as normal about earlly Oct. Set at 21 degrees 9am to 9pm...... I will add the fact that I am ok till next Aug..... 3.97 gas 15p standing charge0

If consumption of energy reduces in the UK, then it will put less pressure on prices and reduce the impact on the environment. That doesn't necessarily mean prices will come down, but they might not go up as much. Of course, if you are on a low fixed price, then you can ignore this and just do your own thing.6.4kWp (16 * 400Wp REC Alpha) facing ESE + 5kW Huawei inverter + 10kWh Huawei battery. The whole idea of turning your heating 'on' on a particular date or having a set temperature is somewhat ludicrous. Talk of 20 degrees + is also pretty bonkers to me. It's currently 22.7 degrees in my house and I'm sitting here in shorts and a t-shirt with the windows open.
My heating is set to 16.5 degrees during waking hours and 13 degrees overnight. It stays like that all year with the following exceptions: if we go out for more than an hour or so then I use the 'away' mode and set the date and time we'll return - the heating will come on if required to raise the temperature for our return; if one of us feels too cold then we'll boost the temperature to anything up to 18.5 degrees - such a boost defaults to last 1 hour before returning to the set schedule.
We also have a wood burner which we use to burn scavenged wood. I blew £120 on about 2.5 cubic metres of seasoned hardwood in 2020 and still have about a quarter left, along with a bunch of logs I've collected or been given, which should be enough to last the winter if used judiciously.
The main thing is to avoid wasting heat. If everyone wears sensible clothing then that's half the battle. Always a good, thick hoodie and warm socks or onesies for the kids. No one is allowed to complain about being too cold if they're not wearing enough clothes.
Then it's about only heating the rooms we're using, when we're using them. Bedroom radiators are turned down low during the day (manually) and doors and windows are kept shut. If we need to ventilate then it's done in the middle of the day.5 -
We put ours on when we get cold, it's always been to that way. Yes it's set to auto mode when the temps warrant it but we go as long as we can without heat. It could be mid October start of November (hopefully) before it's really on fully.
As above post currently sitting in t shirt and shorts, we aren't governed by seasons and what we should expected temp wise.
Talking to a couple yesterday similar age as us (retired) they already have heating on in the mornings and have the winter duvet on the bed. We still throw the bedroom windows open at night.🤪0 -
this building appears to be heated by occupants below that think 24c is too cold. Heating was definitely off end of Jan this year.
I think we will try not turning it on this winter.
currently internal temp is 26c - which we find way to warm.1 -
1 hour in morning, the rest of the time put an oddie on.
My minimum always been set at 10 degrees so never came itself outside the times I set.

Alternatively you could try and reduce your usage, and thermostat temperature to have better guess at the following years usage1 -

It'll be more of a shock come March next year when people will get their bill's for over winter, and they need to up their DD, or dig into savings to pay it off. The same goes for a good chunk of the people who receive the £650 from the government, it's gonna be spent on other things as we're sleep walking into this.1
