Speeding ticket - smart motorway

Hi
I was driving on the A1M a week back and I am sure I got flashed by a smart camera. I am not 100% sure but I think the speed limit was 50 at the time and I was doing 70. I really was just in the zone from a long drive and didnt even think or register that I needed to act. Yes I am an idiot and I feel like one.
I currently have 6 points on my license that is due to expire on 18th November. If lets say hypothetically I get 6 points from this fine which takes me up to 12 but I dont get prosecuted before 18th November, would I get a driving ban?
Appreciate any info people might have.
Thanks,

Points count from the date of the offence, so six will take you to twelve.robtay2802 said:Hi

As above, it is the number of points you already had on the day of the offence that is counted, it doesn't matter if they expire before conviction. However 70 in a 50 is a fixed penalty with 3 points, 4-6 points is only if you choose to go to court and are convicted.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'm sure you'll be fine - it seems like driving bans for accruing 12 points are optional anyway ☹️0 -
As above, and assuming you were actually flashed by a real camera, unless your true speed was over 75mph you will be offered a fixed penalty for this offence and you will not be at risk of a ban.
However any further speeding offences between now and November WILL put you up to 12, and you'd be facing a ban regardless of when your case actually comes to court. So slow careful driving needs to be the order of the day for a while.0 -
I wouldn't be persuaded to act or not act on the basis of hyperbole from an article from within the Daily Fail stable.The_Unready said:https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-10304829/amp/More-35-000-motorists-12-points-avoided-bans-2017.html&ved=2ahUKEwii4IDml_P5AhWYQkEAHecAC0QQFnoECEkQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2jP7jbPskxYr6tH7yh-0MV

I'm not sure what your point is in focussing on the source of this data, as it's pretty much irrelevant?ontheroad1970 said:

Irrespective of the source, my point was more to highlight the fact that even amassing 12 penalty points doesn't (unfortunately, in my opinion) mean an automatic ban. Just plead 'extreme hardship' and you can apparently continue to break the law with impunity.
The response wasn't designed to advise the Op on what to do - he/she is obviously free to make their own mind up.0 -
Do a bit more research and you will find that the vast majority of extraordinary hardship requests are denied. They are also based mainly on the effects on others not the driver.The_Unready said:

The majority may well be denied, but that doesn't alter the fact that a great many are accepted!ontheroad1970 said:

Wan't it this paper that was rejected by Wikipedia as an unreliable source? Certainly my experience is that it doesn't attempt to reliably report news but merely spread biased propagandaontheroad1970 said:

"The editors described the arguments for a ban as “centred on the Daily Mail’s reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism and flat-out fabrication”.

There you go - as you all seem to want to focus on the delivery rather than the message, hopefully that source will be more acceptable to you!0
