Vodafone broadband asking me to replace openreach faceplate

Openreach's responsibility finishes at the termination point at the back of the master socket.
Openreach would replace it if your ISP organised a visit, but as it is on "your" side of the connection that would be chargeable.
There isn't really a market for fakes as only the UK uses this type, they can be had for under £10 on ebay

Ok thanks, I will bite my lip and try to acquire the faceplate.

As said , it’s really no different if your ISP supplied a ‘dangly’ filter that went faulty….if OR were called out on a fault to discover only this item faulty , an unnecessary visit charge would probably be raised with the ISP who would then almost certainly bill the consumer….it’s a grey area because the interstitial cover has ‘Openreach’ on it but as said OR ‘responsibility’ ends at the master socket test port….it really is the simplest solution to buy one yourself, and possibly consider a different ISP when the time comes , if you feel they have been unhelpful , but the only other option would be to insist the ISP call out OR , and OR change the interstitial cover but don’t raise a ( £80+) charge for the visit0

Northern_Wanderer said:It's a Master Socket 5C MK4 with built in filter, no other wiring.A Manager from the ISP called me today. They still claim that I should go and buy a new face plate but will reimburse me with the cost. They said Openreach would refuse a job to replace the faceplate and the ISP is unable to send one to me. Perhaps I am being stubborn by refusing to aquire the faceplate but I am unsure where is reputable to buy one as I know a lot of tech stuff online is fake. I don't know where would sell one in a shop and I'd have to travel to a bigger town for that. I still feel that the ISP should be the one to rectify this as I am paying them for a fault free service which as far as I'm concerned includes the master socket including faceplate and router. Openreach fitted the 5C MK4 a few years ago for an intermittent fault.I have escalated this to a complaint. Suggestions for best way to resolve?

As far as buying one, you can big these up for around a tenner quite easily, eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/Openreach-Telephone-Master-Socket-Faceplate/dp/B07NX2KC8Y/ref=sr_1_30

There is nothing wrong with running straight off the test socket. I have been doing so for almost 4 years. When my house was built, the builders wired phone sockets into almost every room, and although there is nothing plugged into any of them, the existence of the wiring causes a fault condition which hinders the operation of the broadband. If I replace the faceplate it connects the master socket to all that dodgy wiring.
