Energy Usage Costs by Appliance

Our usage is 20-30 units per day, includes 3-4 units for hot water, no heating on at the moment so not sure why we are using ~£5-8 daily.Although I'd be happy if the bills remain under £400 a month from Oct 1st.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1081

Ditch that electric fire then you won't be tempted to use itscaredofdebt said:...............Electric Fire/Heater 52p an hour...Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Assuming a modern jug type kettle, just boil the amount of water you need. Most kettles will do a mug full.scaredofdebt said: It's 3p to boil half a kettle of water.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
My kettle boils 400ml of water (i like a big mug of tea) in 50 seconds which is 41wh in my 3000w kettle which is just over 1p.
The reality is i look out of the window for a break in the clouds and use free solar power to take up most of that 3000w.

I recently decided to buy a 2Kw kettle (£25 Argos) as it works better with my solar/battery and is much less likely to pull energy from the grid.
I can already see the difference, our daily grid draw has gone down over the last month from an average 0.5kWh to 0.2kWh. I pay 35p/kWh for electric so that's 17.5p a day, down to 7p a day, 10.5p saving. Kettle will have paid for itself in 238 (sunny?) days!

I think our problem is cooking, we tend to use 20-30 units a day but yesterday we cooked a big meal and usage was nearly50 units/kwhHow much does a typical oven use? Also how much does a typical hob use (induction)?I can't easily measure those as the plug isn't easily accessible.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1081

You used 50kW/h in one day? That's a quarter of the monthly usage for us and I'm liberal with our electric oven usescaredofdebt said:I think our problem is cooking, we tend to use 20-30 units a day but yesterday we cooked a big meal and usage was nearly50 units/kwhHow much does a typical oven use? Peak draw may be high to start but once the oven is hot it shouldn't keep the elements on, same for your stove top. Extractor fans can use a little more than you expect AND hood lights can be power hungry as most people will not use LED type.2
