@littlemissbossy : I've put this through my spreadsheet that does vary usage by month.littlemissbossy said:
Thanks so much for doing that for me.Irratus_Rusticus said:
I started your comparison on 1 Sep to show how the variable rate total changes from case above.Presumably your monthly fix DD is the same as below?:littlemissbossy said:I too have taken this tariff, I will pay more Sept-Dec but then if the predictions are correct I would save after that. I'm not sure if I've done the right thing but there are no exit fees so I can swap back if I get twitchy.
My rates are:
E
67.89 kWh
41.98 s/c
G
18.81 kWh
27.22 s/c
My usage is E=2660 and G=11430
Yes that ties up with my DD, ouch!
Using the latest cap predictions from Auxilione, I get Annual Total (on SVT) to be £4385, needing £365 monthly direct debit.3 -
Another Octopus fix or not fix question. I'm currently on Flexible October 2018 v1.
My fix offer is:
Electric SC 47.86
Unit 68.25
Gas SC 27.22
Unit 18.89
Annual usage on the last bill was estimated as: Electic 5053.2 and Gas 11488
We've been on the same journey as MariaAH and found lots of places to save.
I'd be really grateful if you could do that number crunchy thing you clever folk do please

Hi all, could I just jump in here too. I've been offered a very similar fix but I'm struggling with data.
I know that if I take the fix, my E7 electricity and my gas unit rates will be substantially more expensive for Oct-Dec. But once we hit Jan with the 52%, then the 23%, then the -11% I am consistently cheaper per unit. Which is OK.
What I'm struggling to understand is my energy usage predictions. The increased cost of gas Oct-Dec is +5.5 per kWh (fix over the cap), but then -1p for Jan-Mar. I can't figure out if it's worth it, does a typical house use more gas Oct-Dec or Jan-Mar?
Electricity remains very 'competitive' from Jan onwards against the cap and predicted caps, Octopus saying I will use 4200 kWh a year but currently on course for 2600.
Any opinion is appreciated, thank you!1 -
Going from the Auxilione usage figures per month the average household uses 25% more in Jan to Mar, than Oct to Dec. The usage below is based on the 12000 gas from the cap.
Gas Jan 1895 Feb 1653 Mar 1521 Apr 1011 May 614 Jun 342 Jul 261 Aug 259 Sep 397 Oct 878 Nov 1395 Dec 1773 11999
This is of course not necessarily how you use gas.2 -
Thanks for that, it probably isn't how I use it in terms of volume but at least it gives me an approximate trend to apply to my workings.
Really appreciate it, thank you.1 -
Hi, sorry for asking a silly question but exactly how do you get this Octopus loyalty discount. We are with Octopus...do we need to call them and they will offer cheaper tariffs?
I would be extremely grateful if someone could explain everything to me in a very basic manner ☺😅2 -
Its not really a discount - but it is an offer of a 12 month fix/ Log into your Octopus account online > go to my Account > scroll down to the Change My Tariff link > this should take you to the options available to you.Justlittleoldmehere said:Hi, sorry for asking a silly question but exactly how do you get this Octopus loyalty discount. The Loyal Octopus fixed tariff is available to existing customers only, and is a couple of pence per unit cheaper than the standard Octopus fix which is available to everyone.
On the 'change tariff' page as helpfully explained by @TheGardener, this is roughly what you will probably see
The standard Octopus 12M fix is 72.87p/kWh.1 -
Actual true loyalty discount is automatically applied to electricity flexible Octopus customers who have been with Octopus at least 8 months.Justlittleoldmehere said:Hi, sorry for asking a silly question but exactly how do you get this Octopus loyalty discount. £4.00 a month credit Standing Charge discount which adds up to £48.00 per year
