Cherry2017, you haven't told us why you are asking about hours of sunshine?
Your English is excellent but I get the feeling that you are not native to the UK?
Weather in the UK is very diverse, perhaps the most diverse in the world, due to its unique geographical location.
Much of the time we have cloud cover which means there is almost no difference in light between sun and shadow. The number of sunshine hours varies vastly with location. Many places on the west of the British Isles have no more than 1,100 hours of sunshine a year. Some parts of the south have 1,900 and more.
This means that if that house was in Eastbourne in Hampshire it would have an average of at least 2 hours more sunshine every day than an absolutely identical house in Londonderry or Shetland!
It is not a simple north/south or east/west divide, two places on opposite sides of a valley can be in sight of each other yet have very different sunshine hours
As well as cloud we have a lot of wind, which also varies greatly. Whether you are a sunbather or a gardener, wind matters as much as sunshine. Trees don't just affect shade, they greatly affect wind as well.
I hope this is useful.3 -
Daylight and sunshine are very different things. This is the UK, we are never guaranteed sunshine at any time of year, even less so October to February!2

It appears that your vendors already have a patio in the 'perfect' place to the far left/upper part of the garden (we have an almost identical situation/bearing). We haven't used our 'space' there because it's been far too hot this year. Instead we find ourselves sheltering along the back wall of our house. Not so. The daylight hours will be longer in Eastbourne between the Autumn Equinox and the Spring Equinox. During the summer, daylight hours will be longer in Shetland. That doesn't automatically correlate to more or less sunshine, but certainly not true to say Eastbourne will get 2 hours more sunshine every day.Alderbank said:

The tables below give yearly averages for the hours of sunshine at cities and towns across the United Kingdom.'I confess I was surprised that Shetland only gets 1,110 hrs of sunshine a year, about 770 less than Eastbourne. But over 365 days that does average to 2.11 hours difference a day. The skies are often stormy and grey over Lerwick. Eastbourne, not so much.
If you look up the dawn-to-dusk times for Edinburgh and Glasgow, say, which are more or less at the same latitude, they are the same so their hours of daylight are the same. But Edinburgh has nearly 200 hours more sunshine than Glasgow each year.1 -
Thank you so much! Your information is so useful! I believe not much local people even know what you wrote here.Alderbank said:Cherry2017, you haven't told us why you are asking about hours of sunshine?
