You could probably ask for interest, but interest on £65 for 10 days is barely worth the time it would take to ask for it. I would certainly expect them to take care of any costs incurred due to not having funds in your account, and this is what they offered me when a similar thing happened. Have you asked them to reimburse you for bank charges etc?

They cannot make a card refund instantly go into your account. Where have you got this from?

Friend who runs a business he can have transactions prioritised and they skip the clearance system in addition people who have credit card merchant accounts can reverse a transaction same day.

Sainsburys refunded my account instantly when they made an error on their delivery paperwork and tried to charge me for 18 loaves of bread!

It still takes the same amount of time to go through the banks system.

It might not show up instantly but certainly doesn't take 10 days!!!!

I called Tesco yesterday over a refund that I was still waiting for and the manager authorised it there and then, and already today it is showing on my credit card statement. It never normally takes more than 2 days

  • It doesn't matter how long it takes it wasn't even a refund on merchandise unwanted it was a mistake on their part. When money is tight that is an awul lot of money and can make a snowball effect on things. YOu don't pay this one on time and then you cant pay the next one and then your credit can get shot. I think it is a dreadful thing to say "chill out mistakes happen" How would you feel if you were on a limited budget and didn't have the money to put petrol in the car to maybe go to work and lost a days work. Not everyone has credit cards that they can use for emergencies.

Mistakes shouldn't happen that is just the point and if she hadn't checked her statement and if she had lots of money maybe would never have noticed and Tesco would be making more profit from the innocent and ones that can least afford it. Ask them to cover any payments you might have had to make as a result of this. Taffy

This is actually a very good reason for getting a credit card to use for shopping online, but only as long as you are disciplined enough to pay off the full balance when the statement is due so you don't get into any debt.

It's one of the reasons I started using a credit card for all my purchases as I've had mistakes like this happen in the past and been stuck with no money in the bank until it got paid back. I also won't use a debit card online for security reasons as again it would be my money they stole instead of the credit card companies and these things can take weeks to sort out.

  • it takes about 1-2 days for my money to go back into my account if I send anything back...and if they did it to me I wouldn't want to use them again...last time they messed up my shopping I rang them and complained saying that they were gonna loose me as a customer because of it...they gave a code for free delivery and £20 off a £100 spend...it pays to complain...:D
