Keeping UK number whilst living in Ireland
I’ll be moving to Ireland for about a year. My current UK sim only contract is coming to an end around the same time. I don’t think there is a way to move my UK number to Ireland so I’m getting an Irish SIM card but how can I keep my UK number for when I return? I was thinking of getting a pay as you go SIM card with a bit of money on it but transfer my UK number to that. Then I can pick it up again when I return to England. Is there another way I should do it?

Simplest would be to see if you can transfer your contract to a PAYG with the same provider once it has reached it's minimum term. Top it up with the minimum required and use it as often as needed to keep it active.
Negates the need for a number port to another network.0 -
I'd find a PAYG network that has free overseas use so that it can be used for urgent calls on that number which may come in. I wouldn't be bothered about sticking with the current provider unless it is the best option. Its far easier to port to another provider in most cases and gives you more options.2

YOu could switch to Lebara/Lyca for their 1p deal which would cost around £40 for the yearRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
