£3549 average household yearly cost is wrong - More like ~£5000 if on SVT

Why would you carry on with normal usage at those prices though? You could halve that if you only heated occupied rooms.0

Also the problem is that even January is guessing, and it gets worth the which each quarter.
I agree that the £5000 looks much more realistic than what they do, but how do you sell that to news people who don't even grasp that the cap is not just a single figure, or that the increase for electricity and gas is different?

I totally agree. I certainly wont be carrying on with normal usage. I'm fortunate that I fixed in June. I know I have 12 months ish to get my usage down (a lot) which is a good thing.
Surely people should be basing their decision on fixing if they are currently on SVR, on the more correct figure of £5k when trying to work out their annual usage from now.0 -
Octopus are offering fixes that will be nearer next Aprils rates rather the October rates, that's why I'm staying on the SVR.Someone please tell me what money is0

Octopus have the Tracker rates with caps at 55p electric and 16p gas. They are the best deal at the moment if you don't want SVTBarnsley, South Yorkshire

I took figures from last Dec/Jan...
On my current rates which are 10.99p gas and 35p electric it will cost around £340 for each of those months, if I was on the new SVR £480!
I'm not looking forward to winter 2023 because my current rates only last until July.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.0 -

Between self selection, People don't want to call in and sound stupid, and call screeners, And the fact they are listeners likely means its been explained before on the show, So many people have said they no longer watch the news in general, They got sick of it in covid years, Many threads in November-March said they don't watch news any more, Many that visit here have picked up a lot of info but they are active in self learning, We all know someone that are still putting head in sand.1 -
I use the Bright app (works with smart meters) to help monitor my energy use. It picks up the tariff you're on and gives usage and costs with a few hours delay.
I think it also uses your latest tariff to cost historic data too, so if you have already fixed in prices for the winter ahead, you can go back and look at winter 20/21 data and get a good indication of how much that could cost in the coming winter months.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
