Shell Energy can’t supply IHD - alternatives?
Shell say they’re all out of IHDs. Surprise. What alternatives are there?
I live in a 1980s house and energy usage is way above the ‘typical’ level. I don’t know why. Thermostat set at 17 deg etc etc. have followed the usual advice but still really high. I need to monitor usage in real time to see how else to reduce it.

we got bumped over to Shell when previous supplier went bust.
I see there’s a £79 device which works with the Bright app, any feedback would be great.

There is the ivie bud which is the latest version, although has no battery… the glow one does have battery slots. I prefer the bud I have both.1

What do you specifically need it for? I know how useful they can be, but spending money on one might not be worth it. Some careful monitoring of the meter and some pretty straightforward arithmetic will tell you how much a given device is consuming per use or per hour. That's probably sufficient until Shell get more stock in.1

The ivie bud is 49 on Amazon well worth it imo1

Call me cynical but I’m not convinced I’ll ever get one from shellAylesbury_Duck said:What do you specifically need it for? my meters are in a really inconvenient place so I wouldn’t be popping out to read them often.I’m going to lash out £11 on a plug thingy that tells me usage per device, I don’t know how I could tell otherwise, with about 20 devices cutting in and out eg fridge, freezer etc
or am I missing something simple?0 -
I would call you cynical, but MSE thinks writing just that word isn't a long enough post.1

49 - 11 is only 38 more, buy the IHD, it’s better anyway than the one originally suppliedHerbyme said:

I’m a bit confused here. Are these not measuring 2 different things.
the ivie is measuring total energy consumption, gas as well as electricity, ie it brings central heating into the equation, and I’ll be able to see if gas or electricity usage is spiking, and find out why (eg someone has put the immersion heater on 🗡🗡🗡🗡)
the £11 thing (eg, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00G955V0E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2DHZ8PEFUW8LD&psc=1) will measure usage by one particular appliance so I can find things I need to turn off (more often) and ones I can ignore
Is that what each of them does?0 -

I won't call you cynical but Shell are under no obligation to supply you with one. I would not expect them to do so.

Ah I didn’t realise that, for some reason I assumed it was part of the ‘deal’, thank you for pointing that outQrizB said:Herbyme said:

They are part of the deal, but if you lose it or if it breaks outside of the warranty Shell (or any other supplier) does not need to give you a replacement.
They don't even have to sell you a new one. It is just a once off.0
