13-28 you used 695 units but were away 3 days in that time? Have you tested if the meter is going up with everything shut off?

  • Turning boiler off tomorrow. Will let everyone know

Why not now? That’s a huge jump in consumption….. look at the reading now and look again in an hour
  • Going to bed. Am a lively pensioner but not up to turning stuff off and then sleeping. Bit dodgy if there is a leak somewhere. Doors and windows open all day

Readings are all important as that's the data from which you can see patterns etc., as I'll demonstrate.

I make that 1286m³ in 76 days - averaging just under 17m³ per day - I'm not using that in a month at the moment and I'm not very frugal in my usage - I just use what I want and need (i.e. I like my hot water hot).

I put your numbers through my own calculator - my prices may be a little different, as they vary by region - but make that a chargeable total since 13th June of £1085.57 (close enough to what you posted, to be a plausibility check) - somewhere in the region of £445/month on average.  So something is clearly awry.

I've tried extrapolating it back to when you had your new smart meter installed - you didn't give a date, but said 6 months after you moved in last year.  So, for arguments sake, if I guessed that was mid-November 2021 and the smart meter started at 0 - then you used 1023m³ in the first 210 days of the new meter until 13th June - so averaged 4.8m³ per day over winter (perfectly plausible for someone living alone in a flat - I used more myself, but live in a spread out old stone cottage), but almost 17m³ per day since June - with no heating on.

So you see, the readings show compelling evidence that something is clearly wrong.  If you want to state your case with Octopus, it puts you in a stronger position if you can illustrate why it's wrong.
  • Yes I’ve sent figures and spoken and written and they are not doing anything . Thats why I came to the forum.
  • I’ve checked and my smart meter was installed 19 May 2021. I am extremely frugal

Can you recall the exact date of the radiator installation, you mentioned a couple of months ago? Seeing that you only used 15.2 units between June-July's date makes me wonder if this was before the radiator was put in and something did go amiss during that.

Blimey has someone tapped into your supply !!

Greg Jackson CEO of Octopus gives his email on Twitter (Customer issues: email greg@octopus.energy  for best response), add that to all your emails and let them know your rasiing a complaint to Offgem and the https://www.ombudsman-services.org/

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/making-complaint-about-your-energy-supplier-or-network-operator

When Octopus replied keep at them saying it's not good enough as they'll drag their heels, once I mentioned the Ombudsman-Services when I was owed money it turned up that week.

"Please confirm by close of play Friday, upon when I will have to formally complain via the Ombudsman Services."
