Comparing Christmas lights and that fridge. The light in mine has not worked for over 10 years. Oddly enough on the grim day of energy rates confimed i put in new light bulb in after reading online how to do it. It works. I was chuffed.
Its incandescent fridge bulb 97 lumens 15w
Have been opening it to see it about 10 times. Times that by 24 million houses. Someone would enjoy working on those figures.
But yea councils will not be doing chrismas lights this year.0 -

Lots of plastic excess and little of that Jesus stuff.Mods, please close this thread, its August.

Edit. Reminds me of 1970s humour. Maybe they are being humorus.
'it is definitely the council houses in my city that do it.'

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Between the family only the kids will get presents, no need for adult giving this year.
And if someone does put on the family celebration and everyone uses their warmth and expensive inflation busting food then we all chip in.
Christmas isn't about the presents or the lights anyway.0 -

I historically had two neighbours in competition as to how soon to get the lights up. One neighbour has since moved but the other has switched all their external lights on at beg Nov for the last few years. I shall wait and see what happens this time.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213

People need to order their priorities straight. Heat your home, fill up your fridge and cupboard with food, provide for your kids, make sure your bills are paid. Then cut your cloth and carve out your lifestyle and plan Christmas accordingly based on whatever is left over.
Christmas lights, are at the bottom of my list. But hey!, best of luck with ordering your own list.I'm afraid you are using the old definition of disposable income. (But I know what you mean and agree with you)Disposable income is simply income minus income taxes (nett salary)Discretionary income is what you mean= what you have left to spend or save after all the bills are paid. Most people (I used to, until I simply couldn't believe the size of the figures and looked it up) think disposable income is what you have left to spend on frivolities, I suspect it was redefined so that the headline figures look better.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The string of LED lights that we hang around the front of our house each Christmas for around a month, on for 6 hours each evening will cost about £3.00 in electricity, 10p a day.
Personally I think we can manage that amount in our Christmas budget to cheer up the street.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
