Christmas lights?

Candles?(four of them 😁… showing my age 😳)
LEDs are much cheaper to run than the kind with a bulb (although personally I don’t think they’re as pretty)
If you’re meaning those houses that are lit up with thousands of lights outside from mid-November, personally I’d be happy if they were a thing of the pastEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur9 -
On a timer so it's really limited to when you are actually there to enjoy them?
In actuality - I will be really happy to do without. Yes they are pretty but I'm light sensitive so find them highly irritating after the first few minutes. Happy to simply have a tree covered in baubles.

People (some people) will do the calculations and act accordingly.
A 200-LED string is about 20W, they're on for 8 hours a day for a month, 250 hours, or something like that. So that's 5kWh at 52p per kWh, or about £2.50.4 -
Buying 4 candles to light each night of advent would cost a bit more.

I suspect Christmas will be cancelled this year or at least vastly reduced in terms of expensive gifts and going to pubs etc. I really don't think a lot of people fully realise how much they are going to be worse off this year and how little, if any disposable income they will have.
People need to order their priorities straight. Heat your home, fill up your fridge and cupboard with food, provide for your kids, make sure your bills are paid. Then cut your cloth and carve out your lifestyle and plan Christmas accordingly based on whatever is left over.
Christmas lights, are at the bottom of my list. But hey!, best of luck with ordering your own list."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich2 -

Not so sure of that, might be true of the savvy members of this forum. But for those who are more spendthrift the bigger bills won't hit until the new year, so I suspect they'll have a good Christmas and worry about bills in the new year. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of the money given to pay electric bills being spent on Christmas and then people saying they can't afford to pay for electric in January.chris1973 said:I suspect Christmas will be cancelled this year or at least vastly reduced in terms of expensive gifts and going to pubs etc. I really don't think a lot of people fully realise how much they are going to be worse off this year and how little, if any disposable income they will have.

Thinking of those people in the council estate houses (no offense meant if you live on a councl estate) who adorn the front of the houses and gardens like Blackpool Illuminations from early November to early January
Perhaps not this year then...I only cite them as an example as although I don't live on a council estate, it is definitely the council houses in my city that do it.It'll be just static lights on a christmas tree for us this year. We usually have lights around the front windows, across the front room. The twinkling ones I hate !!!0 -
I'm not a fan of houses with gaudy lights in the slightest, but we have a few of them around... a few do it for charity, and I imagine those are more mindful of the cost.eliza2811 said:Thinking of those people in the council estate houses (no offense meant if you live on a councl estate) who adorn the front of the houses and gardens like Blackpool Illuminations from early November to early January

Those that do it as they like umm tacky, i imagine won't give the cost a thought until its too late and the bill has landed - that's just based on the mentality of those I know that do light their homes to rival BlackpoolMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
