Too late now, but if you need clothes drying quickly don't go for a heat pump dryer.

They do take hours to dry a full load  and they can't be used to quickly finish drying an item you may need.

Heat pump dryers are more gentle to your clothes as they don't actually get above 50c when drying (basically delicate mode on a condensor) they do take longer, but you still end up with the same result albeit with a lot less power use.

    It's like running vs walking.

Hybrids overcome that issue and can still be efficient.

Most times are a lot shorter than specified if you have a decent washer efficient spin cycle.

Needing something quick is poor planning or just not enough clothes.

No problems with run time with ours, if in for the day can easily do 4/5 full wash dry loads.

Are these heat pump driers new technology, or relatively new?

Never heard of them before until a recent thread I made in the energy forum.
  • Just a little update …..

using my plug in energy monitor gadget, I’ve compared costs/usage for a standard wash/dry cycle (a pair of jeans, 2 pairs of jeggings, 4 T-shirts, a pair of pajamas and various underwear for him and her)

old zanussi washing machine - 16p wash or 0.61 kWh
old zanussi condenser dryer - 61p to dry or 2.291 kWh

new Samsung washing machine - 11p to wash or 0.428 kWh
new Samsung heat pump dryer - 12p to dry or 0.471 kWh

based on electric currently being 27p a Kwh, (fixed until March 2023) So while the dryer is a decent saving now, by next year the price difference between a condenser dryer and heat pump dryer will be huge 😮

and honestly, the heat pump dryer took no longer than my condenser dryer!

Done a load of towels and another load of bedding aswell and again, it dried really quick. Says 3 hours when you put it on but within an hour or so it was finished 👍🏼

Think they’ve been about for a few years.

Tbh, I looked at them last year and all I kept seeing was how long they take to dry etc so kept saying no to having one. But then researching more, the cost savings and energy prices being so high now, I soon realised buying a normal dryer would cost silly money to use now!
  • I actually only bought one originally as they had the colour I wanted! It doesn’t take anything like as long as it says
  • Glad you are liking your new tumble! I found that too, when I first start it, it would say 2h14 as a default but it doesn't take anywhere near that. I also notice that sometimes I feel the clothes aren't quite dry enough but by the time I have folded them they are dry! Very strange. Wouldn't go back to vented now.
