Eon tariffs fixed or not

Hi i am new here, and i'm like most pretty much everyone else i am really scared about my energy bills and about either feeding my daughter or having lights on. I am currently with EON and my tariff ends in at the end of the month. The only fixed tariff they are offering is the next online V21 which will push up my costs to about £4789, a 210% increase to what i am currently paying. Now MoneySavingExpert has on their site that there is a V19 tariff for all existing customers which is around £3700 a year. But when i told EON about this they say MoneySavingExpert are lying, Martin Lewis is lying. Its something they have made up to make EON look bad. That is what they told me over the phone.

Now i really don't know what to do, I can't afford £4789 a year and thats before the next increase in Jan, My wife works, i work part time and stay home to look after my 2 year old daughter, as childcare right now is at crazy prices.

Do i go onto the Next flex which isnt fixed rate and is variable but is much cheaper?

    Welcome to the forum.
E.ON's tariffs get updated regularly. Recently they have been offering two one-year fixes, a "Next Online" which is slightly cheaper and a "Fixed" which is slightly more expensive. The version numbers of these tariffs don't necessarily line up.
You've been offered Next Online V21, which makes me think that the V19 version on the MSE site has been withdrawn and replaced.
EDIT: Although checking eonnect.com I see Online V19 is still listed as current, together with Next 1 Year V21. Which of these have you been offered?
Exactly what are the rates for the tariff, and what are your estimated annual consumption numbers?

  • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but short of drastic short-term government intervention there isn't going to be any way to get a significant reduction in costs going forward.

The only option for most of us who can't afford exorbitant energy prices is to reduce our usage. If you post your annual electricity and gas consumption in kWh (usually found on the back of your bill) along with the latest unit rates I'm sure someone around here will gladly help you see if you are paying the correct amount for what you currently use.
  • This is what they are offering us, for electricity 84.33 with day charge of 47.89, gas 32.03 with day charge, unit rate 20.98, it will tally to £5445 per year, at the moment we are on about £1586 a year.

Some people have been recommending us to change to Octopus energy but i have never heard of them.

The EON Next Online V19 has already been withdrawn more than a week ago, rates for V20 have been posted. I have not seen anything about V21, but very possible that it has now replace V20 already.

This site is not lying as stated by EON, the problem is to keep up with tariffs been withdrawn and replaced. This is especially a problem as most of the current offers are only for existing customers, so you cannot just check the status of the offers if you are not a customer.

I think that's Next 1 Year V21, not Next Online? Can you double-check the exact name of the tariff please?
I wouldn't accept that tariff, there are better offers elsewhere and the SVT is currently forecast to work out a bit cheaper.

  • Nope is definitely Nextonline V21, that is the only option they have or its the variable rate which is currently at the same price as what we are on now, so around £150 per month.

What options do you get as current tariffs if you go to this link and enter your postcode?

  • Next 1 Year V21, Nextonline V19 and Next flex, but when i log into my account they aren't there its just Nextonline v21 nothing else. Also when i call EON they don't even give me those options its just the V21 they can offer when i call.

Eon just offered my new fix - best is 1yr Smooth V20 - I'm Elec only. Night 49p (from 12p) Day 66p (from 25p) 51p SC so consider yourself lucky.  Not sure whether to stick to variable for present N 17p D 34p - depends on how much Night rate increased.  Appears they are going way over the 3 rate increase since October 21 when I fixed.

Yes I still see Next Online Direct Debit V19 on the available tariffs within my Eon Next account this morning.  To the OP, I'd check your online account to see what it says is available to you.  ATM there is no listing for Next Online Direct Direct Debit V20 but I'd expect it to appear very soon.
